Attention Community

🎬 THE PEOPLE’S WAY — A FREE COMMUNITY MOVIE PREMIERE

Minneapolis, this is more than a screening. This is our history being documented, our voices being heard, and our community being seen.

The People’s Way follows Toshira Garraway, Jeanelle Austin, and Robin Wonsley—three women whose activism, advocacy, and commitment to justice have kept them on the front lines fighting for our community.

This screening matters because our stories deserve to be told by the people who lived them. Behind every protest, every demand for accountability, and every call for change are families, organizers, and community members carrying real pain while continuing to fight for something better.

From George Floyd,to the many other Black men and women whose lives have been taken through violence and injustice, we have witnessed loss that has forever changed families, neighborhoods, and our nation.

We cannot allow their stories—or the work that followed—to simply become yesterday’s news.

This film gives us an opportunity to remember, reflect, learn, and understand why the work for justice and accountability must continue. It also allows us to witness the courage of women who refused to be silent when their community needed their voices.

This isn’t just something to watch. It’s something we need to witness—together.

Minnesota was in the house for the VC Defensa Defensa del Pueblo: A summit to end the terror against the people!

Yesterday, representatives from PSL Twin Cities COPAL MN Neighbors United were in Oxnard, California, sharing with hundreds of immigrant rights activists, faith leaders, labor unions, community organizations, artists and more about the experience of the fight back movement against ICE and Operation Metro Surge in Minnesota. The Trump administration is attacking our movement through NSPM-7, but the message heard throughout the conference was clear: the people refuse to back down in the face of repression. We will continue to build a nationwide movement to defeat ICE terror!

BLACK AUGUST AT THE TWIN CITIES LIBERATION CENTER

We were honored to close out Black August with a screening of “The Murder of Fred Hampton”. This past month we honored the memory of all freedom fighters, past and present. We studied how the state has been used as a weapon against socialist political activists, and the power of Fred Hampton’s emphasis on multinational unity.

We continue the fight for Black liberation, and for a system in the future that serves all working and oppressed people!

AFTER OPERATION METRO SURGE: 1,700 STUDENTS LEAVE MINNESOTA SCHOOLS

According to data analysis by Sahan Journal, as many as 1,700 students were forced to leave their schools here in Minnesota as a direct result of Operation Metro Surge.

The drop in enrollment is part of an ongoing trend of declining student enrollment since the start of Trump’s second term, most notably among English Language Learners. Around 20,000 students utilized online options for school at the height of Operation Metro Surge, however, many students chose to not return out of fear, loss of housing due to parents no longer being able to work, or in some cases, without saying where they were going or why.

Our schools are losing students and losing funds because of ICE terror. This decision to prioritize racist fear over student safety and resources is a political choice. It is the choice of the ruling class that wants to keep us afraid, underfunded, and divided. Our students deserve a system that actively invests in their future and prioritizes their safety. A better future, a socialist future, is possible!

WE’RE GOING TO DEFENSA DEL PUEBLO La Defensa Del Pueblo

The Trump Administration is attacking our movement by bringing charges against 15 Minnesotans. In recent weeks it has also been revealed through court documents that DHS was infiltrating our movement here in Minneapolis during Metro Surge, trying to fabricate a conspiracy. But we know what was really happening — our community was organizing to protect our neighbors and defeat Trump’s racist campaign of terror.

That’s why we’re traveling to Oxnard, CA for La Defensa del Pueblo: A summit to end the terror against the people on Sunday, September 6. We’ll be traveling with immigrant organizers from [tag neighborsunited] who fought back against ICE in January and beyond. We’re excited to take what we’ve learned through struggle here in Minnesota to La Defensa del Pueblo and we hope to see you there!

$4,446,225,377. $2,050 per taxpayer.

For the remainder of Trump’s term, this is how much taxpayer money is projected to be spent on mass deportations - money that could instead fund necessities in our communities like teachers, firefighters, nurses, veterans’ medical care, Medicaid, Head Start, SNAP, public housing, and paid parental leave.

The Democrats and Republicans alike say that there’s not enough money for people’s basic needs. But there is always money somehow for war at home and abroad. This isn’t an issue of scarcity - it’s a political choice by the ruling class.

We are fighting for a system that uses our collective resources for our collective benefit, rather than just to enrich a tiny portion of wealthy people at the top. That system is called socialism. Join us today to make it happen: pslweb.org/join

NO DATA CENTERS IN MINNEAPOLIS

The data center struggle is coming straight to the heart of the Twin Cities. On Wednesday, August 19th, residents across the Twin Cities packed a public meeting between representatives from a data center developer, Legacy Investing, and the North Loop Neighborhood Association Planning and Zoning Committee to demonstrate their overwhelming opposition to a proposed data center in a former Star Tribune printing plant.

We all know what this wave of data center development means: Depletion and contamination of precious water sources like the Mississippi River, increasing electricity prices, utility service disruptions, air pollution, noise pollution, light pollution, and an explosion of fossil fuel consumption. We also know a push for data centers means the people will fight back. We have seen a wave of movements across the country of people fighting data center development in their cities and winning.

The ultra-wealthy hold virtually limitless power globally, and they’re destroying the planet. But we can defeat them together. If we want to survive, the working class and the oppressed must hold political and economic power instead of the billionaire class, and industries must be nationalized to meet the needs of the people and the planet. We will fight these billionaire-backed data centers, and we will fight for a whole new system!
