1854 Treaty Authority's NIIBIN 2026 Newsletter is now available!

Niibin is in full swing, say the hatched and happily swarming black flies. The 2026 ceded territory moose season has been approved, and applications will be available June 22nd.

Our interactive WebMap has been updated - if you haven’t already, we urge you to take some time and check out its capabilities and YOUR opportunities throughout the ‘54. Duluth-area Indian Education students had the chance to experience the science of water quality through sampling a nearby waterway while collecting traditional teachings.

Curious in participating in this year’s off-reservation moose hunt? Consider attending one of the upcoming moose hunt recruitment events for the chance to (1) gather your hunting party or connect with other hunters in need of a party, (2) update your 1854 ID, (3) obtain some input from CO’s, biologists and Knowledge Keepers, (4) submit your 2026 application, (5) win some door prizes, and (6) share a meal, all in one stop! Join us in welcoming our new staffers.

Unauthorized unmanned aircraft system (UAS) flights threaten firefighter safety and wildland fire suppression efforts. If you fly, we can't!
