Flora Pool Announcement - May 28, 2026

Due to visibility concerns created by cloudy water, Flora Pool will close at 6 p.m. TODAY.

Safety is the City's top priority in operating its pools, and we must close the pools when visibility issues prevent staff from safely monitoring the water. The issue causing cloudy water is not harmful, and the pools are expected to be open tomorrow.

DETAILS: The issue creating cloudy water is the same as previous years: tiny paint particles too small to be caught on the pool's filtration system. Although the issue has created visibility concerns, the water itself is safe. A non-toxic treatment will be used to address the issue.

Help shape the future of Dubuque’s pools and water facilities! 💧🏊

The Parks and Recreation Department has launched a citywide Aquatics Feasibility Study to help guide the future of Dubuque’s pools, splashpads, aquatic centers, and water-based programming. Community input is essential as the City works to build safe, accessible, and inclusive aquatic facilities for generations to come.

Residents and stakeholders are invited to participate in an in-person community input session:

📅 Wednesday, May 27
⏰ 6–7:30 p.m.
📍 Jule Operations & Training Center, 949 Kerper Blvd.

This focus group opportunity is designed for water walkers, lap swimmers, and swimming lesson families, but anyone interested in the future of aquatic facilities and programming is encouraged to attend.

The Aquatics Feasibility Study will help identify community needs, evaluate existing facilities, explore future opportunities, and guide long-term investment in aquatic spaces that serve residents of all ages, abilities, and neighborhoods across Dubuque.

Can’t make it? Additional public engagement opportunities will be available throughout the summer.
