***PUBLIC NOTICE***
TAXES ARE NOT GOING UP 30%
Contrary to the Article released by The Courier Herald and the state notice of a 30% tax increase in Laurens County, this is misleading. The board of Commissioners have approved a Millage Rate increase in the amount of 30% but that will not directly reflect a 30% increase in your property taxes. Laurens County has consistently year of year boasted a low Millage Rate and will continue to do so. Our Current Millage rate of 5.48 NO LONGER Sustains the expenditures of Laurens County. The need to increase the Millage rate is for Public Safety, no addition to Administration or Public Works. This increase will directly fund the Sheriff’s Needs, Laurens County EMS, Rural Fire and 911. The Proposed 7.00 Millage Rate will still be one of the lowest in the state and much lower than all surrounding counties. The Board of Commissioners works very hard to control spending and be frugal of all taxpayers dollars.
WHAT DOES THIS INCREASE MEAN FOR PROPERTY OWNERS?
If you own a home that is assessed at $200,000 (which is the county average) your taxes will increase approximately $10 per month ($120 per year) If you have any questions please feel free to contact any five of us at any time. Also, Public Hearings for this is scheduled for:
