To help keep California’s roads safe, the CHP will conduct a Labor Day Holiday Enforcement Period (HEP) from 6:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, through 11:59 p.m. Monday, Sept. 7.

During the enforcement period, we will be focus on removing impaired drivers from the road and educating motorists about the dangers of driving under the influence.

Photos from the crash this afternoon eastbound I-580, west of I-205. Luckily the driver was able to exit the vehicle as it became engulfed in flames. The vehicle fire then caught the hillside on fire which prompted lane closures for emergency personnel. One lane remains closed but should be opening soon as crews mop up hot spots. 8/31/26, 2:02pm

🚨This past Friday night, we partnered with Livermore Police Department for a Sobriety Checkpoint. The purpose of these events are not only saving lives by getting dui drivers off the road but also education.

Everyone knows how dangerous, selfish and reckless driving under the influence is. Events like this are a good reminder. Please, if you plan to go out, and there is any possibility you may consume alcohol, plan ahead. It’s too easy these days. Phone a friend, use a ride share program or designate a sober driver. It’s just not worth it!

Thank you to all the drivers who came through the checkpoint and shared their appreciation for our work and our goal to remove impaired drivers. We can all agree, no one likes impaired drivers.

DUBLIN AREA TO OPERATE A SOBRIETY AND DRIVER LICENSE CHECKPOINT

A Sobriety/Driver License Checkpoint will be conducted on Friday, August 28, 2026, by the California Highway Patrol’s Dublin Area and Livermore Police Department. The checkpoint will take place on First Street near Portola Avenue in the City of Livermore from approximately 9:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.

Motorists approaching a checkpoint will see informational signs advising them that a Sobriety/Driver License Checkpoint is ahead. Once in the checkpoint lane, motorists will be delayed only a few moments while an officer explains the purpose of the checkpoint.

The primary objective of any Sobriety/Driver License Checkpoint is to ensure the safe passage of every motorist on our highways. A Sobriety/Driver License Checkpoint is an effective and proven tool to deter driving under the influence and remove unlicensed drivers from local highways. They also help raise public awareness of these most important driver safety issues while augmenting regular patrol operations.

Captain Monahan also emphasized, “We are sending a clear message to all individuals who are considering mixing alcohol and or drugs with driving – it is not worth the risk. Public safety is our top priority.”

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

DUBLIN AREA TO OPERATE A SOBRIETY AND DRIVER LICENSE CHECKPOINT

A Sobriety/Driver License Checkpoint will be conducted on Friday, August 28, 2026, by the California Highway Patrol’s Dublin Area and Livermore Police Department. The checkpoint will take place within the City of Livermore from approximately 9:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.

As with all checkpoints, the media will be notified in advance whenever a checkpoint is planned. Motorists approaching a checkpoint will see informational signs advising them that a Sobriety/Driver License Checkpoint is ahead. Once in the checkpoint lane, motorists will be delayed only a few moments while an officer explains the purpose of the checkpoint.

The primary objective of any Sobriety/Driver License Checkpoint is to ensure the safe passage of every motorist on our highways. The California Highway Patrol continues to make progress in the fight against organized retail crime.

From August 1st–9th, CHP’s Organized Retail Crime Task Force joined more than 100 law enforcement agencies nationwide for the National Organized Retail Crime Blitz, conducting coordinated enforcement operations at businesses, shopping centers, and retail stores across California.

The results:
• 97 suspects arrested, including 8 on felony charges
• More than 8,500 stolen items recovered
• Approximately $1.05 million in stolen merchandise recovered

These efforts build on last year’s success and reflect CHP’s continued commitment to holding organized retail theft suspects accountable and protecting California businesses and communities.
