The Alameda County Fire Department (ACFD) provides all-risk emergency services to the unincorporated areas of Alameda County (excluding Fairview), the Cities of San Leandro, Dublin, Emeryville, Newark and Union City, the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Serving a population of 394,000 and encompassing an area of roughly 508 square miles, the ACF

D provides a wide variety of services to an ever expanding and diverse community. These services include:

📚 Back to School Supply Distribution

The Alameda County Fire Department (ACFD) was proud to support the distribution of school supplies to students throughout Alameda County, including Anna Yates Elementary School.

This Labor Day, the Alameda County Fire Department (ACFD) wishes everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday. Please celebrate responsibly, stay aware of your surroundings, and make safety a priority.

ACFD administrative offices will be closed; however, our firefighters and emergency personnel will remain on duty and ready to respond.

Update on Structure Fire in Unincorporated Hayward

On August 30, 2026, at approximately 12:46 p.m., the Alameda County Fire Department (ACFD) responded to reports of a structure fire in the 800 block of Grove Way in unincorporated Hayward.

ACFD firefighters observed fire and smoke coming from the residence.

Residents had safely self-evacuated prior to the arrival of emergency personnel.

The Hayward Fire Department assisted with fire suppression efforts.

No injuries were reported. Five people were displaced as a result of the fire. The home sustained significant damage.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Join Us in Remembrance
The Alameda County Fire Department invites our community to join us for the 25th Anniversary 9/11 Memorial Ceremony, hosted by David Haubert, Alameda County Supervisor and Board President.

The ceremony will honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, recognize the courage and sacrifice of first responders, and reflect on the unity and resilience that emerged in the aftermath of that tragic day.

Traffic Alert | Vegetation Fire Response
On September 1, 2026, at 2:18 PM, the Alameda County Fire Department (ACFD) responded to a vegetation fire along westbound Interstate 580 at State Route 238, east of 164th Avenue in unincorporated Hayward.

The fire spread into a large pile of wood chips, generating significant smoke and impacting traffic along the I-580 corridor. Firefighters worked quickly to contain the fire and prevent further spread.

Three fire companies remain on scene conducting mop-up operations and extinguishing hot spots. Motorists are advised to expect traffic delays in the area and use caution when traveling through the corridor.

Structure Fire in Unincorporated Hayward

On August 30, 2026, at approximately 12:46 p.m., the Alameda County Fire Department (ACFD) responded to reports of a structure fire in the 800 block of Grove Way in unincorporated Hayward.

🚒 Structure Fire in San Leandro

On August 26, 2026, Alameda County Fire Department (ACFD) crews responded to a structure fire in the 800 block of Carmel Court in San Leandro.

Firefighters arrived to heavy fire conditions after neighbors reported flames and smoke coming from the residence. During the incident, an adult male was located inside the home and transported to a local hospital. 

We appreciate KTVU FOX 2 reporter Zak Sos for sharing this story and helping highlight the impact fires can have on our community.

We also want to recognize the actions of Isaac Vuong, an ACFD Reserve Firefighter, who did what he could to try to slow the fire’s spread until crews arrived. His quick response reflects the dedication and commitment of those who serve our communities, both on and off duty. 

Our thoughts remain with everyone affected by this tragic incident.

Structure Fire in San Leandro Displaces Resident

On August 26, 2026, at 7:21 p.m., Alameda County Fire Department (ACFD) crews responded to a reported structure fire in the 800 block of Carmel Court in San Leandro.

Neighbors reported seeing flames and smoke coming from the residence. Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire conditions in the home and they met up with an ACFD reserve who was first on scene working to help prevent further spread of the fire to nearby homes before crews arrived.

During a search of the structure, firefighters located one adult male. He was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.

One adult child residing in the home has been displaced. The Red Cross is assisting the family.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
