⛵🌊 From Beaver Island to Drummond Island 🌊⛵

Many of Drummond Island's early families arrived by water, and among them were members of the Seaman family.

Like many island settlers, the Seaman’s were drawn to opportunity, natural resources, and the promise of building a life in the Great Lakes. Their journey brought them from Beaver Island to Drummond Island, becoming part of the community that helped shape the island we know today.

Travel between islands wasn't as simple as hopping in a car. Families, belongings, supplies, and livestock often made the trip by boat, relying on weather, skill, and determination to reach their new homes.

The story of the Seaman family is one of many that reminds us how connected the Great Lakes islands have always been. Long before bridges and modern transportation, these waters served as the highways that linked communities together.

Do you have Seaman family connections or stories that have been passed down through your family? We'd love to hear them in the comments.

📸 If you have historic Seaman family photos, feel free to share them below!

🤍 A Memory from Drummond Island's Past 🤍

One of the best parts of this page is the stories that come with the photographs.

After sharing this 1963 photo of the old "Hurry Back" sign, Linda Rade Baker shared memories of visiting Drummond Island with her family. They stayed at Vechell's Resort, spent their days fishing, walked the Maxton Plains, and even made a trip to the old dump to see bears.

She recalled family vacations filled with fishing, island adventures, and the friendships that made Drummond feel like a second home. One story that made us smile was her memory of seeing a bear at the dump and watching her mother run back to the car faster than she'd ever seen before.

Linda also shared memories of Hank and Grace from Chuck's and wrote, "I think they still dance at Chuck's at night when it's closed." ❤️

Thank you, Linda, for sharing these wonderful memories and helping preserve a little piece of Drummond Island history. Stories like these remind us that the island isn't just a destination, it's a place that becomes part of people's lives for generations.

Do you have a favorite Drummond Island memory? We'd love to hear it in the comments.

From fishing boats and ferries to swimming at the beach, family camp weekends, and long summer days out on the lake, so many memories here begin on the shoreline.

Let’s see your favorite throwback on the water… bonus points if it’s in black and white.

One of our favorite things about Drummond Island history is realizing how many ordinary moments eventually become part of the story.

The old ferry rides.
Family fish fries.
Camp photos tucked into albums.
Kids jumping off docks.
Storms on the lake.
Long winters and muddy springs.

Years later, those small moments become the memories people treasure most.

If you have an old Drummond Island photo or memory, share it in the comments. We love seeing the island through everyone’s stories. 🤍
