Statement from Upper Darby Third District Candidate Bob Yantorno:
I recently learned that some candidates for the Upper Darby Democratic party collaborated with their allies in the press in an effort to undermine my campaign for Upper Darby Third District Council. I suspect they fear I might win. They fear having a member of council that served as a Police Commander, who will not tolerate their efforts to defund our police. They fear having to be held accountable for the policies that have bankrupted our township. They dismiss my nearly 50 years in uniform defending our country and our communities because they fundamentally misunderstand what it means to be a public servant rather than a self serving, transactional politician.
Their antics have only served to strengthen my resolve, rally support, and remind us all what is at stake in this election. They cannot win a war of ideas, so they lie, smear, and peddle the same tired accusations of racism and bigotry. Meanwhile their policies, which result in regressive taxation, fiscal mismanagement, cuts in services, underperforming schools, and social disorder - consistently hurt the most vulnerable among us the most. Such hypocrisy.
While I advocate for law and order, they make excuses for rapists and murders. While I advocate to get our fiscal house in order, they raise taxes every chance they get. While I advocate for what makes Upper Darby great, they make excuses and manage decline.
As a father of mixed race children, I have experienced real racism first hand with them. It is a scourge on our society and should not be tolerated. So too are disingenuous, politically motivated accusations of racism made by the cynical and selfish intended only to tear us apart.
So, when their phony accusations surfaced in a recent story, I was surprised when one of their own candidates approached me to apologize profusely. So, I decided that I want to thank that young man for stepping up and doing the right thing. Kyle McIntyre, a Democrat candidate for Upper Darby Council At-Large, told me that he had nothing to do with their plot. He told me that he pleaded with his fellow running mate, NOAH FIELDS, to do the right thing and not spread lies about a decent, public-service oriented man he has known for some time as we live just a block away from each other on the same street. When he told me it was his running mate Noah Fields, who was determined to ruin my 48-year reputation of serving country and community, I was mystified because I have never spoken to Mr. Fields and know nothing about him. But I would like him to know that me and my family will never forget what you tried to do to me.
As for Kyle. We may disagree on a lot. I disagree with his support for the Earned Income Tax. And I disagree with his past advocacy for dismantling the Upper Darby Police Department’s SWAT team and concerned about his record of leading anti-police protests that I feared misrepresented our local police department’s record in a way that could present a danger to our community. Buy after this meeting we had on Saturday, our policy disagreements notwithstanding, Kyle did the right thing by apologizing to me directly, defending my integrity, and exposing the truth about who was behind their lies. So, Kyle, if the stars align, you and I will both be on council to represent our residents, as we spoke of. You are bigger man than most to buck your party and stand for what is right. We both agreed a few times over the course of this campaign to take no cheap shots and to keep this campaign spirited and honest. Well, after speaking with Kyle I can say he more than kept his word, BECAUSE, in the world where I and the vast majority of adults in this country and around the World live once you swear on something all would be lost if it wasn't truthful. So, People of Upper Darby, you ought to know about the sincere apologies Kyle made on behalf of his running mate Noah Fields and that is why I want to thank him publicly because of the salacious accusations were made public about me. Kyle...you are a stand up guy. I know this may be contrary to running my campaign to speak of a candidate from the Democratic side of the aisle but what is right, is right.
I look forward to seeing everyone out in the neighborhood this week and at the polls next Tuesday. Onward!
