See who got Educated at the Skaggs Catholic Center!
These are some of the lucky winners of a copy of the book, Educated by Tara Westover. These books were given to them by Random House Books after a virtual event hosted by The King’s English Bookshop in Salt Lake City. Many thanks to the publisher and TKE!

is brought to you by a frequent visitor in the library. She can be seen reading, talking with friends, or coloring our latest project at the coloring table. I may have called her an 'over-achiever' to which she flipped her hair and said she was proud of the title.
Book: Hey, Kiddo
Author: Krosoczka
What a great book! It’s my because it’s a true story and very relatable. I gave it 5/5 stars! I liked how the subject of addiction is handled and how the main character is brave and spoke up to help and did their best in a tough situation. My favorite character is Shirley. She is very honest and supportive and helped Jarrett a lot...I love that Jarrett had a close relationship with his Grandma. Don’t miss out on this one. It’s great!

Look at these fun student body officers spreading Christmas cheer on Elf Day! These cute elves get to have a little fun, be silly, and most importantly make other students feel extra special! We love getting into the Christmas spirit at Juan Diego! Would you rather be an elf for a day or just enjoy the magic they spread?

Clare of Assisi (Born 16 July 1194) Traditional accounts say that Clare's father was a wealthy representative of an ancient Roman family, who owned a large palace in Assisi and a castle on the slope of Mount Subasio. Clare gave up her worldly advantages and wealth and devoted herself to God.
It is assumed that Clare was to be married in line with the family tradition. However, as a teen she heard Francis preach during a Lenten service in the church of San Giorgio at Assisi and asked him to help her to live after the manner of the Gospel.
Francis placed Clare in the convent of the Benedictine nuns of San Paulo, near Bastia. Her father attempted to force her to return home. She clung to the altar of the church and threw aside her veil to show her cropped hair. She resisted any attempt, professing that she would have no other husband but Jesus Christ.
Pope Pius XII designated Clare as the patron saint of television in 1958 on the basis that when she was too ill to attend Mass, she had reportedly been able to see and hear it on the wall of her room.
St. Clare, through her writings, letters, prayer and example, helped generations of Catholics and Christrians see how Christ took on human flesh, not just to suffer and die for us, but to help us reflect back the face of Christ to the world.

Have you spoken up against wrongdoers? What gave you the courage?
In The Hate U Give, there are countless examples of bystanders and courageous heros. Let’s have hard conversations and teach our children to be heroes: for themselves, for their neighbors, for the friendless, for the marginalized. We are all God’s children.

NaNoWriMo is Happening! National Novel Writing Month is NOVEMBER!
What Is NaNoWriMo?
National Novel Writing Month began in 1999 as a daunting but straightforward challenge: to write 50,000 words of a novel in thirty days. Now, each year on November 1, hundreds of thousands of people around the world begin to write, determined to end the month with 50,000 words of a brand new novel. They enter the month as elementary school teachers, mechanics, or stay-at-home parents. They leave novelists.
NaNoWriMo believes in the transformational power of creativity. We provide the structure, community, and encouragement to help people find their voices, achieve creative goals, and build new worlds—on and off the page.
(NaNoWriMo.org)
Come see our book display with:
Authors who took the writing challenge to write a book in November and were published; Authors who are associated with the Juan Diego community; or books to help with grammar, writers block or ways to spark your writing creativity. Don’t let those book ideas sit another day! Write, write and write some more!

‘Love and Gelato’
by Jenna Evans Welch

‘I like this book because it gives a glimpse of what Italy is like. And because it involves love, friendship and a little bit of chaos in the storyline. It’s the book I’ve been interested in lately and the author’s other books are good, too. I recommend reading Love and Gelato!’ - Nahyun Kim (JDCHS student)
We love it when our students give us book reviews! I bet you want to read ‘Love & Gelato’ now, right? I know, I do! Thanks for the review Nahyun! Head over to the library for this book and plenty of other books to keep you intrigued.
