Happy Labor Day from Post 210.

Veterans know something about work. The kind that starts before dawn. The kind nobody thanks you for. The kind that matters anyway.

Our members came home from wars and built careers — teachers, plumbers, lawyers, farmers, factory workers, business owners. They poured the same discipline into their communities that they learned in service.

Today we honor that. Every veteran who clocked in, showed up, and kept going.

Enjoy the day off. You earned it.

This week, the American Legion holds its 107th National Convention in Louisville, Kentucky — bringing together Legionnaires from all 50 states and beyond. Post 210 has been part of this national family since August 8, 1919, when 22 Doylestown WWI veterans signed our charter application — weeks before the Legion itself was officially chartered by Congress on September 16, 1919. From a law office on Main Street to a national movement: that's a connection we're still proud of, 107 years later.

Ever wonder where Post 210 actually began?

A law office. Colonel George Ross's law office in Doylestown, summer of 1919.

A group of veterans who'd just come home from the Great War sat down together and said: we need to stick together. We need to take care of each other. We need to take care of this town.

That was 107 years ago. The office is gone. The mission isn't.

Four brothers. Same company. Same war.

Albert, William, Harry, and Charles Atkinson all served in Company G during World War I. Four sons from one Doylestown family, all in uniform at the same time.

Albert R. Atkinson, Jr. — our namesake — was killed in action in France on September 7, 1918. He was a Sergeant. He was 24.

When our founders gathered at Colonel George Ross's law office in August 1919 to charter this Post, they chose Albert's name. Not a general. Not a politician. A local kid who didn't come home.

That decision says everything about who we are.
