Today, we honor the memory of Lieutenant Tommy Ware, Firefighter Edward Brillhart and Firefighter Robert Galehouse. Their bravery and dedication will never be forgotten. We keep their families and loved ones in our thoughts as we remember these three heroes on this solemn anniversary.

On Tuesday, Aug. 27, 1985, at 8:15 p.m., Lieutenant Ware, Firefighter Galehouse and Firefighter Brillhart were killed while they were attempting to extinguish a fire in an oxygen-limiting silo at Butzer Farm, located on the corner of Warwick and Black Diamond Road, by scaling the 80-foot facility and spraying water into it. The three were on the top of the silo, directing water onto the flames when an explosion lifted the concrete roof of the silo four feet in the air, throwing Ware and Brillhart to the ground while Galehouse fell into the silo.

On Tuesday our department along with Mark Shane with the EPA (also a member of our department) went to the Chippewa Township Nature Preserve for some hands on training.

We learned different techniques on how to contain chemicals if they were to get into our waterways from a spill.

Thank you Mark for your time.

Back to School! 🚌 🍎 ✏️

Yellow lights on a school bus mean drivers should prepare to stop. If you’re driving, slow down, stay alert, and watch out for children. When you see red lights and a stop sign: for school buses!

With severe weather and flooding possible across many Ohio counties, remember to never drive into flooded roadways. Even shallow water can cause a vehicle to lose control.

Tuesday evenings training consisted of touring the new CES building and the Jr/Sr High.

We looked at the mechanical rooms, fire panels, and elevators. We do this so we can respond to emergency more effectively if there happens to be one in these buildings.

Thank you Rob Marshall and Chippewa Local Schools - Doylestown, Ohio for letting us tour the buildings.

Widespread showers and thunderstorms will move southeast across the region this morning. A few storms could produce damaging winds, hail, and heavy rainfall. Another round of storms late this afternoon could produce damaging winds over southwest portions of the area from Bowling Green to Millersburg.

08/11/2026

Multiple rounds of thunderstorms with very heavy rainfall today on top of wet ground from the frequent thunderstorms the past few days will lead to an increasing threat for flash flooding, especially in urban and poor drainage areas and near creeks and streams. Never drive a vehicle into flood waters, and avoid culverts and streams when rushing water is present.
