You only need one reason to vote the new guys in,
******** And this is the One Reason, ********

When term limits are found in presidential and other elected office positions, they act as a method of curbing the potential for monopoly, where a leader effectively becomes in office for life". This is intended to protect a republic from becoming a de facto dictatorship

And that's what you have in Havasu a de facto dictatorship, no matter what the public opinion is, this Council just jam's through everything on the agenda, does not consider public opinion at all, that's not representation that's a dictatorship

You have the potential to have a city council whose first official business would be to vote in term limits, this is very unique and unusual and you should take advantage of this, will serve the city for generations to come

You currently have two Council people that are agreeable to this, you vote in the new guys you will have your majority, had you held Jeni Coke and Michele Lin accountable, and they would have been agreeable to this 8 years ago but the public did not, and now you have this de facto dictatorship, this is a great opportunity to fix that

This in itself is more than enough reason, to replace the entire city council for the good of the future , this would take place on November 22nd 2022 at the first seating of the new Council, Havasu may never have this opportunity again, they have individuals that are willing to install an ordinance to not have this kind of power, that is leadership, that's what this new Council will bring

City Council will meet today at 6pm, in Council Chambers at the Police Department.

Council Candidate Morgan Braden is asking residents to show up if you don’t want the city raising our property taxes.

When inflation, fuel, electricity costs are all soaring. The city keeps bragging about how much sales tax revenue the city is raking is, way above projections, yet they want more money from us at a time when we’re all struggling, and they’re rolling in money.

City Council Agenda
Consent Agenda (may be approved without discussion):
ID 22-3355 The property owner of 1350 Basin Drive wants to remove 1’ 4” x 10’ Public Utility Easement on the eastern side of the property to create additional developable lot area. The City will receive additional property tax revenue by approving this.
ID 22-3357 To adopt a resolution designating Go Lake Havasu as the destination marketing organization for the city, with the Arizona Office of Tourism (AOT).
ID 22-3345 Approval of the Final Subdivision Plat for Golden Rox Townhouses, at 3437 Oro Grande Blvd, creating a 2-unit residential townhome subdivision.

Public Hearings:
ID 22-3360 Truth in Taxation Hearing – Discussion on a 4.4% city tax rate increase vs no city tax rate increase. My comment: Elderly homeowners are struggling already & many can’t even afford to eat properly; our home values are already increasing dramatically, so the city will get more in property taxes without an increase.
Council will convene to a special meeting to adopt the final budget:
Projected Expenditures: $225,766,868
Projected Revenues: $169,106,128
Council will reconvene back to the public meeting:
ID 22-3342 Approve Microsoft Software Licensing for 3 years $756,828 ($252,276 per year)
ID 22-3352 Approve Dredging Design Contract for the Channel for $102,220 (this doesn't include the actual dredging, it's just the plan to dredge).
ID 22-3343 Review New Courthouse Project – Total Cost $8.4 million (including $3 million the city spent to buy Havasu Fitness).
Ways to save money & reduce cost ($660k):
Remove wood paneling in courtrooms
Replace wall tile in restrooms with fiberglass reinforced plastic
Replace flooring in restrooms with polished concrete
Use lower cost acoustical ceiling tile
Replace solid wood doors with hollow metal doors
Outdoor mechanical equipment screen wall removed
Remove ceiling in non-public corridors
Reduce number of access control points
An optional Council Chambers on the second floor would add roughly $1 million to the cost.

If you have strong feelings about any of these agenda items, please show up & speak out. If you don’t speak out now, you can’t complain later (well you can, but we’ll just roll our eyes at you because you didn’t take a stance when it could have made a difference).
