The other night, your Watch One units responded to a traffic collision involving six vehicles. One of the drivers decided to run from the scene —but not without his Modelo beer.

When officers found him hiding in a nearby neighborhood, he was convinced he was in City of Newport. Unfortunately for him, he was in Downey.

He was arrested for DUI and hit-and-run.

The Downey Police Department was contacted by the Downey Patriot and additional media outlets regarding a social media post showing a male subject with bloody hands in the parking lot of Stater Brothers supermarket, reportedly making statements about harming his children. An initial search for the related incident was unsuccessful due to the call not originating at Stater Brothers.

Upon seeing an additional video on social media it was determined the incident in question occurred on Sunday, June 14, at approximately 2:55 p.m., at a residence in the City of Downey. The caller reported a male subject causing a disturbance. The subject reportedly injured his hands after punching his own vehicle windows and left the area before officers arrived. Officers later located him in the Stater Brothers parking lot and transported him to a local hospital for treatment. The male was later booked for violating a restraining order and officers confirmed his family was unharmed.

As Independence Day approaches, the Downey Police Department reminds residents that the possession or discharge of illegal fireworks is prohibited and may result in significant administrative fines.

Violations involving illegal fireworks or fireworks discharged on public property may result in fines starting at $4,000 and increasing for repeat violations.

Our goal is simple: keep our neighborhoods safe, prevent injuries, reduce fires, and protect the quality of life of our residents.

Please leave fireworks to the professionals and help make this a safe and enjoyable holiday for everyone.

Over the past several months, our community has experienced a series of copper wire thefts that have resulted in more than $500,000 in losses and significant disruptions to utility and lighting services.
Investigators determined that suspects targeted underground utility infrastructure, streetlight systems, vacant residences, and unoccupied commercial properties, often stealing wire to strip and sell as scrap metal.
Through an extensive investigation, Downey Police Department detectives identified and arrested multiple suspects connected to these crimes. The Department remains committed to holding offenders accountable and protecting critical infrastructure.

What started as officers contacting three males sitting inside a vehicle after observing an open alcoholic beverage quickly turned into something more.

During the investigation, Watch One units spotted a G***k case in plain view on the front passenger floorboard. The driver then advised officers there was a second firearm in the vehicle. A search resulted in the recovery of two fi****ms and multiple loaded magazines containing ammunition.

If your pregame checklist includes alcohol, loaded magazines, and fi****ms, you’re doing it wrong.
