We are incredibly proud of our Detectives and the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office for their dedication and tireless work in securing justice for Officer Gardiel Solorio and his family.

Following the tragic 2022 homicide of the off-duty Monterey Park Police Officer in the City of Downey, three suspects were identified and arrested. After a recent jury trial, the final suspect was found guilty in less than 40 minutes of deliberation.

Our Detectives previously received the Distinguished Service Award for this investigation, and this outcome is a true testament to their professionalism, perseverance, and commitment to justice.

🚴‍♂️🇺🇸 During National Police Week, K-9 Officer Avila, Officer Smith, and Officer Cantero from the Downey Police Department proudly participated in the annual Police Unity Tour, joining thousands of law enforcement officers from across the nation to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

This year, our officers rode in memory of Downey Police Officer Ricky Galvez and Officer Wayne Presley, who gave their lives in service to our community. Their sacrifice, courage, and dedication will never be forgotten.

Throughout this multi-day journey, our officers were reminded of the strength and unity within the law enforcement family. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Westfield Police Department for their incredible hospitality and warm welcome to our team during the ride. Your generosity and support were truly appreciated.

The Police Unity Tour raises awareness and funds for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, helping ensure that the stories and sacrifices of fallen officers continue to be honored for generations to come.

Today, on National Police Officer Memorial Day, we honor the brave men and women in law enforcement who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

We remember their courage, their dedication, and their unwavering commitment to protecting the communities they served.

The Downey Police Department proudly honors our fallen officers, Police Officer Ricardo “Ricky” Galvez and Police Officer Wayne R. Presley. Their service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

The other night, a Watch One unit stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation and ended up finding a loaded ghost gun inside. A quick records check revealed the driver was a convicted felon — and that combo doesn’t mix too well. The Driver went to jail for being a felon in possession of a firearm and his car was impounded. In conjunction with ABC, officers recently conducted IMPACT inspections at various locations within the City of Downey, with an emphasis on bars/restaurants, to ensure they are following all the rules and regulations set forth by ABC. All locations were in compliance with their inspections and were educated regarding ABC regulations.
