This 10-week program gives members of our community an inside look at the people, training, equipment, and day-to-day operations that make up the Downey Police Department.

This morning, the Downey Police Department joined multiple city and regional partners for a coordinated cleanup effort in the riverbed.

During the operation, housing and supportive services were offered to individuals experiencing homelessness. While many declined assistance, our outreach efforts don’t stop here.

We understand that these cleanups can sometimes feel like a never-ending cycle—cleaning one area only to see the same issues return. But this is not a one-time effort. Our Homeless Outreach Team is out every week, building relationships, offering resources, and working with our partners to address the ongoing issues surrounding homelessness.

There are no quick fixes, but we remain committed to showing up, following through, and continuing the work.

Please help us welcome our newest four-legged officer—K-9 Tex!

Partnered with Officer Avila, K-9 Tex recently graduated from an intensive K-9 training program and proudly completed his first patrol shift last night.

This new team is ready to serve the City of Downey with dedication, teamwork, and an incredible nose for tracking suspects, locating evidence, and helping keep our community safe.

Welcome to the Downey PD family, Tex! We can’t wait to watch this team in action.
