DFA Stachetober 2023. Each year the DFA fundraisers for a firefighter battling job related cancer. This year the DFA will be sponsoring Wendy Watkins. Wendy is a CalFire Firefighter in San Luis Obispo. She is dealing with her second round of cancer. Wendy was on the job for just three years before she was diagnosed with cancer. As we know from previous years cancer treatment is very expensive. Wendy is so weak that she currently cannot work to help pay for these bills. The union is doing its best to support her and fight for a desk job until she is strong enough to get back on an engine. Let’s help her as much as we can. Let's celebrate her fighting spirit and help her battle her cancer!

BRUSH SEASON IS HERE.....

This morning Downey Eng. Co 64 and Santa Fe Springs Eng. Co 82 responded to La Habra Heights as part of a brush fire response.
SFS Eng. 82 provided station coverage for the La Habra Heights Engine that was on the fire and Downey Eng. 64 responded to the fire on the Alpha division and assisted with line containment and mop up.
Unfortunately on the way back Eng. 64 blew a radiator hose and had to wait for the Department Mechanic, Pat Duffy, to arrive and make the repairs on the road side. Pat arrived with his assistant George Cruz and made short work of the repair.
Keeping front line apparatus up and running is a full time operation that keeps the Downey Fire Department operationally ready at all times.

🚨🧑🏻‍🚒👮🏻‍♂️Heroes saluting Heroes 👨🏻‍⚕️👩🏼‍⚕️ Today Downey Fire Dept. and Downey Police Dept. paid tribute to the heroes at our two local hospitals PIH Downey, and Kaiser Downey. Due to COVID 19 precautions, our units paraded through their respective facilities to acknowledge the valiant job they are doing. Together we can all flatten the curve, and beat COVID-19.

Our brothers at made a great flyer about first responder safety within the fire station. Remember to wipe down and sanitize all surfaces you come in contact within the station, as well as your equipment, and apparatus. We can limit the spread, and flatten the curve together by doing our part at the station so that we do not take it home to our families. -19

Be Safe, Wash your Hands, Stay Home if you’re sick, and self quarantine if in doubt. Clean hands keep you healthy and can stop germs from spreading to others.

Additionally, REMEMBER: When you call 911 for something other than COVID-19 symptoms (vehicle collision, fall, etc.), it’s still critical to tell the dispatcher if you have a cough, fever or difficulty breathing so we can respond with appropriate equipment.
Downey Fire has been keeping up to date with the latest information, and news on the COVID-19. We have the proper PPE to protect ourselves from possible exposures, and our Paramedics are working diligently with our nearby hospitals to ensure the safety of all patients.

Dean Hale was a member of Murrieta Fire Department, and recently passed away due to job related cancer. The event will begin around 5pm, and run until closing time (10pm)!!!! We hope you can all make it out, and you can also see the judging of mustaches both good, and bad at 7pm. &brews downeyfire
