Friday, May 29 at approximately 11:48 a.m DeKalb County Fire Department was dispatched to a mobile home fire on Lonnie Cantrell Road in the Blue Springs area.

Upon arrival, fire crews found heavy fire showing through the roof of the double-wide mobile home. It's was confirmed that the residents were not at home and fire crews began a defensive attack to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby exposures.

The double-wide mobile home and contents were a total loss. The Short Mountain Highway, Main, Blue Springs, and Keltonburg stations responded, along with personnel from other county stations, the Main Station tanker, DeKalb County Emergency Medical Service, and DeKalb County Sheriff's Department. The cause of the fire is undetermined. The Red Cross was contacted to provide emergency services to the residents.

Congratulations to the latest graduates of the DCFD Citizens Fire Academy. These individuals took time out of their busy schedules to become members of the 13th class, learning about the fire service through demonstrations and hands-on experience with fire apparatus and equipment. We appreciate their commitment and interest in serving and supporting our community.

Those who have completed the program are: Steven Cantrell, Debra Cole, Wes Fanning, Jana Gibbs, Trina Graham, Michael Hale, Tara Hale, Asheton Hoverkamp, Austin Johnson, Rachel Lawrence, Lexy Odom, Johnathan Ortega Garcia, Denise Page, Jan Thomas, and Zack Vantrease.

Graduation was held at Hurricane Recreation Area with the meal from Kilgore’s Restaurant provided by Michael & Tara Hale.
