Hey Dowagiac, I am looking for ideas/suggestions/recommendations and need your help! We are in the early planning stages of National Night Out and I would like to expand it, we are working hard to raise funds for stuffed back packs again, do you think if we brought in a few Barbers and/or hair stylists people would attend? What is another resource you would like to see at our event? The GrillMasters at the Fire Dept will be grilling hot dogs and spinning cotton candy (NO CHARGE) so families can enjoy a night out without financial stress. I appreciate any/all realistic ideas. Deputy Jon Samuelson remains in the Intensive Care Unit at Memorial Hospital in South Bend. His status is stable, and he remains in critical condition.

Since last Saturday’s initial update, Deputy Samuelson has made significant strides in his recovery. He is communicating with family, friends, and colleagues and remains in good spirits.

Yesterday marked an especially meaningful moment as Deputy Samuelson was reunited with his K-9 partner, Bosco. The two were able to spend quality time together inside his ICU room.

The incredible medical professionals at Memorial Hospital continue providing Deputy Samuelson with around-the-clock care. The Samuelson family and the remain deeply grateful for the compassion, professionalism, and dedication shown by the surgeons, physicians, nurses, therapists, and support staff who continue to care for him throughout his recovery journey.

In the days and weeks ahead, further information will be released when appropriate to do so.

Thoughts and prayers from the Dowagiac Police Department as well.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the La Porte County Sheriff's Office, family, and friends of the deputy who was shot early this morning at Franciscan Health Hospital in Michigan City. The deputy is in critical condition. The suspect was apprehended.

Update from another source:
Deputy Jon Samuelson is in critical condition at a hospital in South Bend, after being shot three times, according to Indiana State Police officials. He’s a 12-year veteran of the Laporte County Sheriff’s office, a K9 handler, and is part of a family of service in our area.

His grandfather is a former Chief of police for Laporte and his father was an officer with Michigan City police dept., who’s now working security at the hospital where his son was shot.
