09/01/2026

Last night, 8/31/2026 SCFR was dispatched to a reported structure fire on Pleasant View Ridge Rd. Crews from Stations 1, 4,5,6,7,10, and 12 responded. Mutual aid was also requested from Montgomery County Fire Department. Upon arrival, crews were met with heavy fire conditions. No injuries were reported.

🙅Do not call 911 for white smoke

🚒 Call 911 if:

* You see excessive black smoke.
* Flames are outside the normal firing area.
* Smoke or flames are spreading or out of control.

**Smoke is expected during firing**, but excessive black smoke or flames outside the normal firing area may signal an emergency.

When in doubt, call it out! It’s better for firefighters to respond early than arrive too late.

Last night, 8/19/26 at approximately 11:05pm, SCFR was dispatched to Pumpkin Ridge Rd for a Structure Fire. Upon arrival of the first fire unit, it was reported that a commercial building was fully involved and was starting to have structural collapse. Fire units from SCFR and Dover Public Safety were able to bring the fire under control at approximately 0023hrs. Fire units from Stations 1,4,7,9 10 and 12 made response.

This afternoon, SCFR was dispatched to a Motor Vehicle Accident with injuries on Highway 120. Upon arrival fire units found a semi off the roadway laying on its side. Fire personnel from Station 1 and Station 7 responded.

This afternoon, SCFR was dispatched to highway 79 near the Dover Bridge for a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival, fire units found a a vehicle that ran off the road way and through a garage. One patient had to be extricated by fire personnel. No major injuries were reported.

🚨 Promotion Announcement 🚨

SCFR is very happy to announce that John Downs has been selected at the new Deputy Chief of Logistics (Chief 3). John is a 25 year veteran of SCFR and has severed in many capacities including Lieutenant, Captain, and Safety officer. John brings several years of experience and leadership qualities to SCFR. Welcome aboard John!

After 43 years of dedicated service, Deputy Chief Jimmy Luffman has officially entered retirement. (However, we won’t let him fully retire haha). Jimmy began is career with the Dover-Stewart County Rescue Squad back in the early 1980s, serving in many capacities from rescue technician all the way up to Captain. When the merger happened with Stewart County Fire Service, the two organizations became what is Stewart County Fire Rescue today. Jimmy rose to the rank of Deputy Chief of Personnel (Chief 3). Jimmy has been a staple and legend of SCFR. In countless emergencies, he was the voice of reason and brought comfort, compassion, and security to those he served. His leadership and passion for the citizens of Stewart County and the members of SCFR is unmatched.
If you see Deputy Chief Luffman, congratulate him on his well-earned retirement. 🔥

🚒☀️ What a busy summer it’s been! ☀️🚒

Our fire department has loved being out in the community this summer! From visiting Dover Elementary Summer Learning and Stewart County Public Library programs, to helping kids cool off at summer camps and supporting local fundraisers, we’ve had a great time connecting with our community!
