BURGLARY OF SUBWAY SOLVED

On Monday June 8th, the Subway on Joiner Hollow Road reported that the business had been burglarized overnight. Cash and security equipment were taken from the business. Investigator Aaron Page obtained a partial description of a vehicle believed to be involved from a nearby business camera.

Investigator Page then began working with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and using the Flock camera, which provides vehicle identification. Based on the information received Investigator Page worked with Chief Moore of the Erin Police Department. The vehicle and suspects were located and taken into custody. After working with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office the 2 suspects were also charged with burglary of a Subway business in Montgomery County. Arrested were Koby D. Reynolds and Tramarcus Lee Spoon.

A good job by all agencies working together and a good job by Investigator Aaron Page helping to solve this case quickly. Stewart County Sheriff’s Office is keeping our businesses safe!!

DETENTION FACILITY KITCHEN STAFF SCORES 100%

Stewart County Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Gray recognized our hardworking kitchen staff, Mary Atkins and Catherine Crider, for their 100% score on the EcoSure Inspection they received on April 13, 2026. SUMMIT, our food service provider at the Stewart County Detention Center, contract with EcoSure to go above and beyond what the TCI’s Minimum Standards requires.Our SUMMIT rep, Christy White, says that this is an in-depth inspection that covers everything from staff allergen certification to cleanliness of the kitchen to maintenance logs. Not only did they earn a perfect score, the inspector said that it was the cleanest kitchen he had ever been in. Again, thank you to Mary, Catherine, and all the Stewart County Detention Center trustees who work so hard to keep our kitchen and meal service running so smoothly.

JUNIOR RANGER PROGRAM

On Tuesday, June 2nd Lt. MacDonald and K-9 Deputy Mickle presented a question-and-answer session to the Junior Ranger Program at Paris Landing State Park this week.

They wanted to know what our K-9’s are trained to do, and how they are trained was presented to a class of about 20 children. The Junior Ranger’s went outside to check out how our K-9’s traveled in the Deputy’s vehicle too. Questions were answered and the Junior Rangers were very interested and enjoyed the presentation.

Hope to see everyone this weekend at Lick Creek Boat Dock,for the Casting for Kids Bass Tournament 2026. This is a great event supporting CASA and the incredible work they do for children of our community. Kids fishing poles 10:00am-12:00pm

There will be lots of raffles and door prizes, food, fun, and an opportunity to support a wonderful cause that makes a difference!!

Sheriff Gray, Chief Deputy Ward and Lt. Ricky Robertson will be cooking the hamburgers and hotdogs, so please join us. This event is open to the public this Saturday June 6th, and starting at 10:00 am due to the kids fishing poles from 10:00-12:00 noon, so we hope to see you there. 💙🐟🐟💙

INMATES GRADUATE FROM LIFE SKILLS CLASS #23

On Thursday May 28th,ten (10) inmates graduated from the Life Skills Class at the Detention Center. The Detention Center has several programs aimed at helping inmates move forward and recover in life. In addition to the skills taught, the inmates received a Bible and a graduation dinner. Brother Phil Dunn along with his wife Ms. Betsy Dunn, does such a great job with this program and has been presenting this class since 2019.

We also want to thank Chuck Gant, who helps put on the class, and Morgan Williams, who speaks to the class on job topics. The ladies from Bumpus Mills Church of Christ help to provide the meal especially the desserts as well as Sheriff Gray who is always at the graduation. Great job to everyone and congratulations to all the inmates who completed the class.

Stewart County is a safe place to live, raise a family, and call home. Your Stewart County Sheriff's Office remains committed to making our community safer, which is reflected in the available crime data. A comparison of crime numbers from 2011 to 2017 (7 years) and 2018 to 2024 (7 years) shows meaningful positive changes in public safety outcomes. The past seven years have shown a significant decrease in property crimes, violent crimes, s*x offenses, and domestic violence.

Not only has crime decreased, but crime solvability has also increased, meaning more crimes are being investigated and resolved.

Drug enforcement and arrests have increased nearly 500%, and DUI arrests have increased 45% over the past seven years. This reflects proactive enforcement, a positive approach that helps prevent and control criminal activity.

Crime statistics themselves are not the sole factor in determining a safer community, but they are an important and objective indicater of community trends, all part of making a community safer. While some may attempt to selectively interpret or bend the data to create a negative narrative, these numbers come directly from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) and the Tennessee Incident Based Reporting System (TIBRS). The percentages and comparisons shown are calculated directly from that data. **The numbers for 2025 have not yet been released.**

The Stewart County Sheriff's Office remains committed to continuous improvement and further strengthening public safety in our community. While these trends reflect meaningful progress, our work is never finished. We continue to evaluate, improve and adapt our efforts to better serve and protect you, the citizens of Stewart County.

MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND-Today, we pause not just to remember their sacrifice, but to live with purpose, and stand for the FREEDOM they died to protect. We pause with gratitude for those who, gave everything. Let’s take a moment to remember and honor the hero’s who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

CRIME SPREE ENDS WITH JOINT EFFORT AND FLOCK CAMERAS

The crime spree by a 17-year-old juvenile that started in Stewart County ended when he and an 18-year-old female were caught in Arkansas. The male subject stole a truck from a residence in the City of Dover, but was not reported for several hours. In the meantime, the juvenile at some point burglarized a business in Henry County before breaking into a home in Benton County and stealing approximately 12 guns from the residence.

Sheriff Gray began working with the Benton County Sheriff Ken Christopher, along with the Dover Police Department. The stolen vehicle was entered into NCIC which also entered the vehicle into the “FLOCK” camera system. The vehicle was picked up on the “Flock”camera shortly after being entered into NCIC on Wednesday May 20th,in West Memphis. Authorities were notified of the direction the vehicle was last seen. The vehicle with the 17-year-old juvenile and the 18-year-old was apprehended a little while later. All weapons were recovered along with other property that was stolen. The 17-year-old man was wearing one of the handguns stolen on his belt when apprehended. This was a joint effort by several agencies including Stewart County, Benton County, Henry County, the Dover Police Department, West Memphis Police, and the State of Arkansas authorities. The two (2) faces charges in Arkansas,as well as charges in multiple counties in Tennessee. What a great job by all agencies involved working as one TEAM!!!

ACTIVE ATTACK EVENTS

On Sunday May 17th, Lt. Robbie MacDonald presented the “Active Attack Events” class to the members of Dyers Creek Church. Everyone who attended the class seemed receptive to the material presented, and the topics covered. This is one of many programs created and put on by the Sheriff’s Office and has been presented to numerous churches and groups over the past few years. We appreciate the participation and the good feedback that we have received from this program.If your church or community group would like this class presented to your group, please contact Lt. IT’S GARDENING TIME

The Sheriff’s Office believes in keeping the inmates busy. From litter pickup to mowing the Detention Center and pressure washing the county buildings, they are staying busy.

The inmates are now planting out a little bigger garden at the Detention Center than they had last year. The female inmates planted the garden last week after the male inmates helped till,and get the ground ready for planting.
