High temperatures and dangerous heat index values are expected across Kent County through the weekend.

If you need a place to cool off, the following cooling centers are available:

📍 Williams State Service Center
805 River Road, Dover
(302) 857-5000

📍 Smyrna State Service Center
200 South DuPont Blvd., Suite 101, Smyrna
(302) 514-4500

📚 All Kent County Public Library locations are also available as cooling centers during their normal operating hours.

⏰ Please Note:
• DHSS State Service Centers are available during normal weekday business hours.
• Kent County Public Library locations are available during their regularly scheduled operating hours, including weekend hours where applicable.

Heat Safety Tips:
💧 Drink plenty of water
🏠 Stay in air-conditioned spaces when possible
☀️ Limit outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day
👥 Check on older adults, children, and neighbors
🚗 Never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles

Are you ready to start a rewarding career helping others? Kent County Delaware Paramedic Trainee applications will be accepting applications soon!

We are seeking dedicated individuals to join our team and become the next generation of life-savers. This is a paid training program! You'll receive a salary and benefits while you attend an approved paramedic training program.

Applicants must possess a current National Registry EMT certification. Delaware EMT certification and Delaware residency are not required to apply. As a paramedic trainee, you'll receive comprehensive training and be part of a team that makes a real difference in the community every day.

Application Period: June 29th-July 15th

We are proud to announce the promotion of Mark Horton to Master Corporal.
Mark has dedicated more than 20 years of service to the EMS Division, consistently demonstrating exceptional clinical expertise, professionalism, and leadership. As a paramedic, he brings a deep understanding of our protocols and, more importantly, the clinical reasoning behind them. His ability to tailor patient care to each unique situation has made him a trusted provider and a respected resource among his peers.
Mark's leadership extends well beyond patient care. He is someone we confidently pair with newer providers, knowing he will offer sound clinical guidance, mentorship, and support. His commitment to developing others has had a lasting impact on both our personnel and the patients we serve.
In addition to his operational responsibilities, Mark serves as a member of our Bike Team and SOP Committee, further demonstrating his dedication to the advancement of our department and the community we serve.

The EMS Division is excited to announce the promotion of William "Shane" Jester to Paramedic First Class.
Since joining our department, Shane has consistently demonstrated a commitment to professional growth and development. Over the years, he has developed into provider who continually strives to improve himself.
Shane actively seeks opportunities to contribute to the department. He is currently working to establish our 3D Printing Committee and serves on the Drone Committee.

On 5/20/26, it was our honor to host our Annual Survivors Reunion. Responders were able to meet and celebrate the survivors of sudden cardiac arrest following their resuscitation.
We would like to thank Kent County Levy Court, ZOLL Medical, and our Survivor Reunion Committee for their help in assuring the success of the event.
We would also like to thank New Castle County Paramedics and Governor Matt Meyer & First Lady Dr. Lauren Meyer for joining us as we celebrated our providers and the survivors.
