šŸŒ”ļø As temperatures climb across Delaware this week, the heat can quickly become more than just uncomfortable - it can become dangerous.

At The Salvation Army Delaware, we believe no one should have to choose between staying cool and paying the bills. That’s why our Corps Community Centers are open to the public as cooling stations, providing a safe place to escape the heat, enjoy cold water, and find relief during this week’s heatwave.

Whether you’re facing rising energy costs, spending time outdoors, or simply need a break from the extreme temperatures, our doors are open and you’re welcome here.

Please check on your neighbors, stay hydrated, and take extra care of seniors, children, and anyone who may be vulnerable to the heat.

When the heat doesn’t let up, neither do we. ā¤ļø

National Donut Day is more than a celebration of a sweet treat—it’s a reminder of kindness, service, and compassion.

More than 100 years ago, Salvation Army ā€œDonut Lassiesā€ served fresh donuts and words of encouragement to American soldiers on the front lines during World War I. Their simple acts of care brought comfort, hope, and a taste of home during difficult times.

Today, we celebrate more than just a delicious treat - we celebrate a tradition of compassion, service, and community that began with The Salvation Army’s brave ā€œDonut Lassiesā€ during World War I. These remarkable women served fresh donuts and a taste of home to American soldiers on the front lines, creating a legacy that continues to bring smiles more than a century later.

As we honor this special day, we’re also grateful for the Delaware donut shops that have helped keep that tradition alive for generations. From the historic Federal Bakery in Wilmington to beloved favorites like Fractured Prune, Duck Donuts, Surf Bagel, and The Station on Kings, these local establishments have become part of the fabric of our communities - bringing people together one donut at a time.

Whether you’re enjoying a classic glazed, a sprinkle-covered favorite, or a made-to-order masterpiece, we hope you’ll take a moment today to share a little kindness, spread a little happiness, and celebrate the simple joys that connect us all.

Donut Day offers more than a sweet treat - it’s a celebration of service, compassion, and hope.

Their simple act of kindness became a symbol of comfort, care, and community that continues to inspire us today.

As we celebrate National Donut Day, we’re reminded that even the smallest gestures - a warm smile, a helping hand, or a shared meal - can make a lasting difference in someone’s life.

At The Salvation Army, that spirit of service lives on every day through programs that provide food, shelter, disaster relief, and hope to neighbors in need throughout Delaware and beyond.

So whether you’re enjoying a glazed, chocolate frosted, jelly-filled, or sprinkled favorite this Friday, take a moment to remember the legacy behind the donut—and the power of doing good for others.

As we begin a new week, may we remember the power of hope, kindness, and gratitude. Life’s challenges can feel heavy, but even the smallest act of compassion - a smile, a helping hand, a listening ear—can bring healing to someone who needs it most.

At The Salvation Army Delaware, we see every day how encouragement and community can lift spirits, restore hope, and remind people they are not alone.

A cheerful heart doesn’t mean life is perfect; it means choosing faith, love, and hope even in difficult times.

Today, take a moment to share a kind word, extend grace, and be a source of light in someone’s life. You never know how much your kindness may mean to them.

ā¤ļø Wishing you a blessed, peaceful, and joy-filled Sunday.

Behind every bill is a family trying their best to hold everything together.

A recent Gallup Panel survey found that 55% of Americans say rising prices have made it harder to maintain their standard of living.

For many Delaware families, that hardship is very real — stretching paychecks thinner and forcing impossible choices between rent, groceries, utilities, and other basic needs.

At The Salvation Army Delaware, we see the faces behind the statistics every day. Parents working hard, seniors on fixed incomes, and families doing everything they can just to stay afloat.

Now more than ever, your support can make a difference.
