Rotary Club of Dover NH

Rotary Club of Dover NH We meet on the 1st & 3rd Wednesday at 121 Broadway in Dover from 12:15 to 1:30. The Rotary motto is Service Above Self.

If you would like to join us or have an idea for an upcoming program please contact Marion Cheney. Rotary is a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders that provides humanitarian service, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations, and helps build goodwill and peace in the world. Approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 31,000 Rotary clubs located in 166 c

ountries. Rotary club membership represents a cross-section of the community's business and professional men and women. The Rotary Club of Dover holds weekly meetings each Wednesday at 12:15pm and are nonpolitical, nonreligious, and open to all cultures, races, and creeds. The main objective of Rotary is service — in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world. Rotarians develop community service projects that address many of today's most critical issues, such as children at risk, poverty and hunger, the environment, illiteracy, and violence. They also support programs for youth, educational opportunities and international exchanges for students, teachers, and other professionals, and vocational and career development. Although Rotary clubs develop autonomous service programs, all Rotarians worldwide are united in a campaign for the global eradication of polio. In the 1980's, Rotarians raised US$240 million to immunize the children of the world; by 2005, Rotary's centenary year and the target date for the certification of a polio-free world, the PolioPlus program will have contributed US$500 million to this cause. Part of the proceeds from the Dover Dancing Bears will fund Dover Rotary Charity Projects such as PolioPlus, the shoe and boot fund, Senior Visits, the Milk Fund, Back to School Project and more than $10,000 in local scholarships.

At this weeks Rotary Club of Dover meeting, we had the opportunity to listen and learn from Chief Driscoll and Captain Adams as they shared the history and purpose of Dover Fire & Rescue’s Annual Fire Safety Festival.

This began about 30 years ago through the volunteer efforts of two Dover firefighters. It continued for years but was put on hiatus during Covid. Captain Adams
has been instrumental in bringing it back to Dover elementary students.

The purpose of the program is to educate students on fire safety, reduce the occurrence of fire-related events and to reduce the impacts should a fire and safety event happen.

A few highlights:
• Every K – 4 student attends the event during fire safety week in October.
• All costs of this program come from donations – no tax payer dollars are used.
• All time and effort are donated by firefighters – they are not paid for their time.
• Production costs range between $12k - $15k annually. Costs include a hat, goodie bag and t-shirt for every student who attends.
• Shows are on a 5-year rotation, so no students see the same production in the time they attend.

The Chief and Captain showed a video clip of a prior production, and it was easy to see the enthusiasm and engagement of the students.

This program is run separately from the toy drive (which is fully operational after the recent flood). The Chief and Captain welcomed the Club and
individuals to donate.

The Rotary Club of Dover presented the May student of the month award to a Dover Middle School 7th grader who stand out not because they seek recognition, but because of the quiet and consistent way they make those around them feel valued, supported, and encouraged.

This student is one of those rare individuals whose kindness naturally reaches everyone around.

In the classroom, this student is incredibly hardworking and responsible. Using time wisely, giving the best effort, approaching every task with determination and creativity sets a positive example and consistently demonstrates maturity beyond the student’s years.

Outside the classroom our student of the month actively contributes to our school in meaningful ways.

As a member of the yearbook team, special moments and school spirit were captured when photographing classmates during school theme days. This meant others were seen and celebrated. Playing the role of White Rabbit in our school musical, Alice In Wonderland, she brought energy and creativity to the stage.

What makes this student truly deserving of Student of the Month is the way she personifies compassion, kindness, and perseverance every single day. She treats others with genuine care, encourages those around her, and quietly makes our school community stronger through her positive attitude and thoughtful actions.

Her character and dedication make her an outstanding role model for her peers.

It is with great pride that we celebrate Brooke Belair for Student of the Month.

Last week, the Rotary Club of Dover presented the Dover Middle School Student of the Month award for April to an 8th grade student who is a carefree and energetic individual and brings humor and creativity into everything he does.

Known for his playful personality and quick wit, he often keeps those around him laughing. In his free time, he enjoys creating his own Google Slides presentations, showcasing both his curiosity and his natural creativity.

He has a deep love for music and dancing, often expressing himself through movement with enthusiasm and confidence.

With an enormous imagination and boundless energy, he approaches the world with excitement-easily outpacing even Sonic the Hedgehog when it comes to spirit and drive.

The rotary club of Dover is proud to present this award to Sam Verny.

Congratulations!

It was an honor to celebrate the Dover High School Interact Club at their end-of-year banquet this past week.

Throughout the school year, more than 40 dedicated students contributed hundreds of volunteer hours, learning firsthand the value of service, leadership, and giving back to their community.

Many of these students partnered with the Rotary Club of Dover on a variety of community service projects, making a positive impact on the lives of others while developing valuable leadership and teamwork skills.

The Interact program provides students with meaningful opportunities to volunteer, build confidence, and collaborate with nonprofit organizations.

Through fundraising efforts throughout the year—including the successful Rotary Shred-It Event this spring, students were also able to support charitable causes and strengthen their connection to the community.

A special thank you to Phil Rinaldi, Cindy Imbro, and Melissa Lesniak for assisting Dover High School teacher Kaitlyn York in guiding and supporting these outstanding students throughout the year.

Congratulations to all of the Interact members for their commitment to service and for making a difference in the Dover community.

Your dedication is inspiring, and we look forward to seeing the impact you continue to make in the years ahead.

Although yesterday marked our final packing and delivery day for this school year, we are already looking forward to returning in the fall to partner once again with End 68 Hours of Hunger as we continue working together to address food insecurity in our community.

This Rotary Club of Dover District Grant project has been an incredible example of what can be accomplished when volunteers come together with a shared purpose.

Throughout the year, countless hands helped pack and deliver bags of food to support local children and families in need, making a meaningful difference one week at a time.

A heartfelt thank you to all of our volunteers, community partners, and friends who dedicated their time and energy to this important effort. Your commitment, compassion, and willingness to serve have had a lasting impact on our community.

We look forward to seeing everyone again in September as we begin another year of service, fellowship, and helping our neighbors in need.
