Our Executive Director, Kacey Weber, attended the Lake Conference today at the University of Maine! ๐ŸŒŠ Lake Stewards of Maine and Maine Lakes does a fabulous job with this conference - great networking and information shared. Have you ever heard of the national โ€œSoil Your Un**esโ€ soil health experiment? Learn about it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUvfjRCEnm0
Simply put, Soil Your Un**es is a soil health experiment that tests the microbial activity in soil. A pair of cotton underwear is buried and then dug up to see how much the microbes in the soil have degraded them. The more microbial activity there is in soil, the healthier the soil!
Last week was the Soil Your Un**es Reveal day for the SeDoMoCha 6th graders who participated in our Soil Your Un**es challenge. In September, these students buried a pair of cotton underwear in 4 different locations around the school campus. Students worked to compile soil data from each site, including soil profile descriptions, soil temperature and pH. Today they got to see the soil microbe activity in their locations and boy did that vary site to site! ๐Ÿฆ
We challenge you to do your own Soil Your Un**es challenge in your gardens! ๐ŸŒฑ
