Piscataquis County Commissioners The Board of County Commissioners serves as the chief administrative body of the county. (Title 30 A§102).

The statutes governing actions, duties, and responsibilities of the County Commissioners are laid out in Title 30A M.R.S.A. The County Commissioners have final authority over the operation of all county offices by elected or appointed county officials. The county promotes economic development by supporting the activities of the Piscataquis County Economic Development Council, http://www.pcedc.org/

. The County Commissioners must act as a board and not on an individual basis in exercising this authority. The Board also serves as the municipal government of the unorganized territories within the county borders. Piscataquis County is comprised of 92 unorganized townships (UTs), 17 organized townships, and two Plantations. The County Commissioners may provide services such as solid waste and fire protection to the unorganized townships. The county also maintains roads owned by the county within the UTs. Piscataquis County has three County Commissioners who are elected for four-year terms.

Foxcroft Academy to Host Critical Incident Training
Event to take place on April 21, 2026

Dover-Foxcroft - On April 21, 2026, during spring vacation, Foxcroft Academy will host a staged "Critical Incident" exercise organized by the Piscataquis County Emergency Management Agency (https://www.piscataquis.us/emergency-mgmt/). This exercise will give police, fire, and emergency medical services (EMS) the opportunity to practice techniques and test procedures in preparation for potential mass events in the area.

As a result, law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and EMS personnel from across the region will be present at Foxcroft Academy during this exercise, complete with vehicles and equipment. Please note that the Foxcroft Academy campus, including the Jim Robinson Field House will be closed to the public until 3:00pm on April 21st.

Repair and/or replace any missing or damaged asphalt shingles on the Piscataquis County Jail roof. Shingle over existing asphalt shingles. Sealing all transition pieces into flashing or other existing material (rubber roofing or slate). Repair Cupola to insure no leaks. On-site inspection is recommended before bidding. The United States Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Assistance intends to fund improvements to 12 tower sites within Piscataquis County’s public safety radio system. At one site, project activities are subject to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. Per Federal Communications Commission guidance, the Department of Justice invites public comment on this project for the next 30 days.
