Today, we pause to remember the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost on September 11, 2001, and to honor the courage and sacrifice of the first responders who ran toward danger while others were running away.

We remember the firefighters, police officers, EMS personnel, military members, and countless civilians who made the ultimate sacrifice. We also remember the families, friends, and communities forever changed by that day.

September 11 reminds us of the strength found in courage, unity, service, and our commitment to one another.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

Update as of 4:30pm on 09/10/2026:
There was a large Fidium outage stemming from VT and is believed to have been the cause of large outages in the area. We are still having issues with incoming phone calls and our mailbox options are not working correctly. If you call and get a message directing you to use a 3 digit extension any messages left will not go through. Dialling 0 should still connect you to dispatch. If not Please call 207-564-3304 option 1 to reach our on-duty officer.

...Windy through Friday...

* As the sun rises today (Thursday), we are seeing the steady rain move out. That said, there will still be a few showers today mainly over Northern Maine.
* Wind will be the main story today and Friday, with gusts 25-35 mph potentially being strong enough for very isolated power outages. The wind subsides Friday night.

A little preparation can make a big difference during an emergency. Keep at least a 3-day supply of water and nonperishable food for everyone in your household, including pets and anyone with special dietary needs. A good rule of thumb is about 1 gallon of water per person, per day.

Check your supplies regularly, rotate out expired items, and choose foods your family will actually eat. Being prepared helps you stay safe, comfortable, and self-sufficient when normal services are disrupted.

UPDATE: The Dover-Foxcroft Police Department has identified the vehicle involved in the fatal hit and run crash that occurred on 9/2/26. No additional information can be released at this time as this case is still under investigation. As more information becomes available to release, we will be sure to provide updated posts. UPDATE: 9/5/26 - the Dover-Foxcroft Police Department has been able to identify this vehicle. No further information can be released at this time as the incident is still under investigation. Thank you for all the assistance.

On 9/2/26 at approximately 8:00pm, the Dover-Foxcroft Police Department was dispatched to North St for a report of an unresponsive subject found on the side of the road. The subject, Barry Lial, 73, of Cambridge, was found to be deceased. Due to limited evidence available on scene, the Dover-Foxcroft Police Department has been working closely with the Maine Medical Examiners Office and the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit (North) to determine the cause and circumstances that led to this incident.

Through continued investigative efforts, despite our initial statement to the contrary, we now believe Mr. Lial was struck by a vehicle as he crossed North St. Below you will see a brief video of a vehicle of interest in this incident. It appears to be a a light colored sedan and was traveling northbound on North St, between Summer St and Winter St, at approximately 7:55 pm on 9/2/26. This vehicle may show minimal signs of hood and/or windshield damage.

Seems harmless, right?
Not necessarily.

That loose 9-volt battery can become a fire hazard if a metal object connects its positive and negative terminals.
Because those terminals sit right next to each other on the same end of the battery, it's relatively easy for a conductive object to bridge them.

That can cause a short circuit, generate significant heat, and potentially ignite nearby combustible material.

THE EASY FIX:

✅ Keep batteries in their original packaging when possible.
✅ Keep them away from metal objects.
✅ If they're loose, cover the terminals with electrical or other non-metallic tape.

Go check that junk drawer. You might be surprised what you find. 👀
