Douglas County is located 20 miles west of downtown Atlanta and encompasses 200 square miles of gently rolling foothills of the Appalachian Piedmont. It is bordered on the south by the Chattahoochee River, east by Cobb and Fulton Counties, north by Paulding County, and west by Carroll County. Douglas County's strategic location as the western gateway to Atlanta, and its proximity and ease of access to Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, make it an enviable place to live, work, and play. Student enrollment in the school district is approximately 25,770 students. There are 20 elementary schools (grades K-5), eight middle schools (grades 6-8), five high schools (grades 9-12), one online school (grades K-12) and two specialized high school programs. With 3,305 full-time employees, the Douglas County School System is the county's largest employer. Our Vision and Mission

The district's Central Administrative Office is located at 11490 Veterans Memorial Highway, Douglasville, GA 30134. New student registration is located at the Central Office Annex located at 4841 Highway 5, six miles south of Interstate 20 in the former Bill Arp Elementary School gym.

🎷DCSS Marching Band Exhibition Taking Place at AHS on Sept. 28 🎶

All five DCSS high school marching bands will take the field for the DCSS Marching Band Exhibition on Sept. 28 at 6:30 p.m. at Alexander High School.

Students at four elementary schools received a surprise start to their day when members of the Robert S Alexander High School football team and cheerleading squad showed up to welcome them into school.

The high schoolers lined the car rider lanes, opened doors, and greeted students with high-fives and smiles as they arrived for the day at Bill Arp Elementary, Mason Creek Elementary School, South Douglas Elementary School DCSS , and Winston Elementary School. For many of the younger students, Alexander High School is the school they will one day attend, and the football players and cheerleaders are the students they look up to.

"Our students lit up when the Alexander football players and cheerleaders lined the car rider lane to cheer them into school," said Bill Arp Elementary Principal Christy Shackelford. "Being greeted by them made our students feel special and excited to start the day. They get a glimpse of where they're headed and what it looks like to give back. We are so thankful to Alexander High School for loving on our kids, and our students are already asking when they can come back!"

Mount Carmel Elementary recently rolled out a special invitation to its most dedicated volunteers: parents. With lots of smiles and enthusiasm, moms and dads traded their usual drop-off routine for something bigger, greeting students curbside with cheerful hellos as they kicked off their school day.

“Having parents participate in everyday campus routines aligns directly with our theme for the year: Reflect, Refine, and Rise,” said Principal Dr. Tenia Boone, who coordinated the initiative.

Dr. Boone shared the critical role family involvement plays in a thriving school environment.

"Parent engagement is truly near and dear to my heart," she said. "I believe schools are strongest when families have meaningful opportunities to partner with us. After seeing other schools involve parents in their car rider lines, I was excited to bring that idea to our school. Seeing our parents volunteer their time and work alongside our staff was a wonderful reminder of the power of school-family partnerships."

The Douglas County School System's "Around the World" booth was voted "Best Booth" on Saturday at the Cultural Arts Council Douglasville / Douglas County’s Mosaic Multicultural Festival for the third straight year.

Mark your calendars! Join us for Sounding Success: Phonological Awareness Made Easy — a new Pre-K Parent Night event on Tuesday, Sept. 15 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Douglas County School System Central Office, 11490 Veterans Memorial Highway, Douglasville, GA 30134.

What to Expect:

Nearly 200 students from 11 Douglas County School System schools contributed to 16 original sculptures now on display as part of the "Outside the Box" exhibit at the Children's Museum of Atlanta.

The exhibit invites families to transform everyday cardboard into forts, bridges, towers and other imaginative structures.

The pieces created by Douglas County students showcase their approaches to design, construction and self-expression while bringing the "Outside the Box" theme to life.

Walker and assistant coach Rachael Lee, a Valdosta State graduate who played college softball for the Blazers, highlighted captains Adryanna Cole, Arissa James and Khloe Wilson at the recent DCSS Fall Sports Media Day.

Lithia Springs High School Lions head football coach Ben Arnold said a veteran offensive line should be one of the Lions' team strengths in 2026.

Arnold, who is entering his second year coaching the Lions, expects that core up front to pave the way for an improved running game.

"We're going to be physical," Arnold said at the recent DCSS Football Media Day.

Lithia Springs is 1-1 in the early going and is coming off a 26-13 victory over Rockdale County last week. The Lions host Banneker tonight at 7:30 p.m.
