The Douglas Dutcher’s took on the Douglas City Slickers—made up of City employees and their family members—for an exciting rematch at Beery Field. While the final score may not have favored the City Slickers this time around, everyone came away a winner on a beautiful summer evening filled with fun, laughter, and community spirit.

We want to thank the Douglas Dutcher’s for another fantastic game and all of the players, families, volunteers, and spectators who came out to enjoy the event. The weather was perfect, the crowd was great, and it was another memorable night of baseball at Beery Field.

Thank you all for making it such a fun-filled evening. We can't wait to do it again!

🚧 City of Douglas Construction Update – June 12, 2026 🚧

Here's a look at the progress made this week and what's coming next on several important infrastructure projects throughout the City.

This Week's Progress

✅ Site Works Solutions (SWS) installed the new water service from the corporation stop to the curb stop for 62 Wall Street on Monday, June 8.

✅ Van Der Kolk Plumbing is on site today completing the private portion of the water service installation for 62 Wall Street.

✅ Sand subbase grading was completed on Wall Street, and aggregate base grading is underway. This work is expected to continue through today and be completed early next week.

Looking Ahead – Week Ending June 19

🔹 SWS will complete aggregate base grading on Wall Street.

🔹 Embankment restoration work will begin on Water Street on Monday.

🔹 Base course paving is anticipated next week, with the possibility of top course paving as well. Depending on weather conditions and contractor scheduling, final paving may extend into the week of June 22.

Additional Project Updates

🚗 Wall Street Reopening
Wall Street could potentially reopen next week; however, reopening may extend into the week of June 22 depending on paving schedules and project progress.

🌿 Water Street Repairs
The Flexamat system—a specialized concrete mat that allows vegetation growth while stabilizing slopes—is currently being delivered. At this time, delivery is not expected until the week of June 22 or possibly the week of June 29.

SWS is working diligently to reopen Water Street before the Fourth of July. However, residents and emergency services should be aware that if Flexamat delivery is delayed until the week of June 29, Water Street may not reopen until after the holiday.

🚤 Union Street Boat Launch
City staff continue coordinating dock improvements at the Union Street Boat Launch. Installation of riprap at the scour hole located at the end of the ramp has not yet been scheduled.

🚧 Union Street / Wiley Road Project
All concrete storm sewer pipe and manhole structures have been delivered and are ready for installation. Construction is expected to begin after Water Street is completed, which may place the start of this project after the Fourth of July.

Thank you for your continued patience as we invest in critical infrastructure improvements throughout Douglas. We will continue providing regular updates as work progresses.

An important message from Consumers Energy: Incoming Storms

Two waves of inclement weather are expected to occur Wednesday evening and Thursday evening. Both waves pose the risk of severe thunderstorms, high winds, flooding, and isolated tornadoes. Crews will be staged as needed, prepared to respond to restoration efforts and potential damage assessment.

"We understand losing power can be inconvenient for our customers, especially during periods of extreme weather," said Norm Kapala, Consumers Energy’s vice president of grid operations, restoration and work management. "Our customers can count on us to monitor the weather and respond accordingly with resources pre-staged across the state."

Consumers Energy urges the public to keep important safety tips in mind:
• Be alert to crews working along roadsides. Drivers should slow down or stop and wait for oncoming traffic to clear so they can go safely past.

• Stay at least 25 feet away from downed power lines and report unguarded downed lines by calling 9-1-1 and Consumers Energy at 800-477-5050. Consumers Energy reminds people that falsely calling in downed lines actually slows down the restoration process for everyone.

• Never use a generator in an attached garage, basement, enclosed patio or near any air intakes. Doing so could cause a generator to produce hazardous levels of carbon monoxide, an odorless, colorless and deadly gas. Read more guidance on safe generator use here.

• Consumers Energy will trim or remove trees interfering with electric restoration activities. Once safe to do so, clean-up of debris from tree trimming or removal during a storm emergency is the responsibility of individual property owners.

• In some cases, the mast that holds the electric service wires to a home or business may have been damaged or torn away. Crews will reconnect the wires to a home, but only a licensed electrician can repair or replace a mast or a cable.

Customers can continue to check the status of outages at www.ConsumersEnergy.com/OutageCenter. They can also sign up for outage alerts and restoration times sent to a phone, email or text message, Text ‘REG' to 232273 or visit www.ConsumersEnergy.com/alerts.

⚾️ PLAY BALL, DOUGLAS! ⚾️

The rivalry is back!

Join us on Saturday, June 13th at 6:00 p.m. at Beery Field as the Douglas Dutchers take on the Douglas City Slickers (City employees and their families) in an exciting rematch of last year's game.

The City Slickers are looking for redemption after suffering a tough loss last year, but the Dutchers are ready to defend their title! 🏆

This isn't your typical baseball game—it's vintage base ball played the old-fashioned way. That means no gloves, historic rules, and a chance to see America's pastime as it was played generations ago.

Bring your lawn chairs, gather your friends and family, and enjoy an evening of fun, laughter, and community spirit. Whether you're cheering for the Dutchers, rooting for the City Slickers, or just enjoying the game, there's something for everyone.

🚧 City Infrastructure & Road Work Update 🚧

The City of Douglas would like to provide residents and visitors with an update on several ongoing infrastructure improvement projects.

Last Week's Progress (Ending June 5, 2026)

✅ Site Works Solutions (SWS) began storm sewer construction and utility locating activities.

✅ Following installation of the new storm sewer, the Wall Street and Spring Street intersection reopened on Wednesday evening.

✅ Storm sewer installation on Wall Street was completed on Friday. While this is a significant milestone, Wall Street remains closed to through traffic until paving is completed.

This Week's Work (Ending June 12, 2026)

🔹 Installation of a new water service at 62 Wall Street began Monday, June 8. This work requires trenching in the northbound lane of Union Street at Wall Street.

🔹 Van Der Kolk Plumbing is scheduled to complete the water service installation by Friday, June 12.

🔹 Road grading operations will continue on Wall Street in preparation for paving.

Upcoming Project Activities

🚧 Paving of Wall Street

🚧 Water Street repairs (awaiting delivery of Flexamat materials)

🚧 Union Street improvements north of Wiley Road

🚧 Union Street Boat Launch improvements

We appreciate everyone's patience as these important infrastructure projects move forward. These investments will help improve drainage, road conditions, utility services, and public access throughout the community.

Thank you for slowing down in work zones and supporting the crews working to make Douglas an even better place to live, work, and visit. 💚💜

🚧🌊 Douglas Marina Park Pavilion Update! 🌊🚧

Exciting progress continues at Douglas Marina Park as construction of the new waterfront pavilion moves forward!

The pavilion structure is now standing proudly along the waterfront, with the roofing, wood ceiling details, and finishing work continuing to come together. This beautiful new gathering space will provide residents and visitors with a place to relax, enjoy community events, and take in the incredible views of the harbor for years to come.

This project would not be possible without the generous support of the Consumers Energy Foundation along with Bud Baty and Max Matteson, who helped make this vision a reality. We are thrilled to see the transformation taking place and can't wait to welcome everyone to the completed pavilion later this summer.

Thank you to CarbonSix Construction and everyone involved in bringing this project to life. Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to the finish line!
