Training Makes the Difference

Today, our department had the opportunity to conduct valuable live burn training, giving our members real world experience in a controlled environment. Trainings like this are critical in preparing our firefighters for the challenges we face on the fireground.

Throughout the day, we focused on key skills including hose advancement, fire suppression techniques, firefighter survival, and rescue operations, along with several other essential tasks that help us stay ready to serve our community.

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to the homeowners for their generous donation of the structure and the use of their property. Opportunities like this do not come along often, especially when a structure is in good enough condition to safely conduct live fire training. Their support made it possible for our firefighters to gain hands on experience that simply cannot be replicated in a classroom.

This type of training directly impacts the safety and effectiveness of our crews—and ultimately helps us better protect lives and property in our community.

Train hard. Stay ready. Serve with pride.

🚫🔥 PUBLIC NOTICE: OUTDOOR BURNING 🔥🚫

Our Fire Department wants to make one thing very clear: we do not advise outdoor burning.

We understand that some individuals may still choose to burn. However, it is critical to understand the risks involved. When a fire gets out of control, it doesn’t just affect you, it puts lives, homes, and property at risk and ties up emergency resources that may be needed elsewhere.

At this time, the State has issued a burn restriction for this weekend, strongly advising that no outdoor burning should take place.

⚠️ Fires can spread quickly, especially with changing weather conditions.
⚠️ What starts as a small burn can turn into a large scale emergency in minutes.
⚠️ Every response pulls firefighters and equipment away from other potential emergencies.

We urge everyone to take this seriously and avoid all outdoor burning. Your decision could prevent a disaster.

Let’s work together to keep our community safe.

The Double Springs Fire Department would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Northwest RC&D Council for awarding us a grant to upgrade our mobile and handheld radios.

These radios are essential pieces of equipment that play a critical role in keeping our community safe. They allow for clear, reliable communication between our firefighters, our 911 dispatch center, and one another during emergency and fireground operations. This upgrade will enhance our ability to respond quickly, coordinate effectively, and serve the citizens of Double Springs with the highest level of safety and professionalism.

We are truly grateful for your continued support of our department and our community.

We are truly honored and humbled that the Double Springs Fire Department was named Fire Department of the Year at the Winston County Who’s Who Gala.

This recognition belongs not just to us, but to every fire department in Winston County. Each department is made up of men and women who sacrifice time with family, sleep, comfort, and safety to answer calls at all hours, often with little notice and never with the intention of seeking recognition.

We are also incredibly grateful for the tremendous support from the communities we serve. Your encouragement, trust, prayers, and backing make it possible for volunteer departments like ours to do what we do.

While we are honored to receive this award, we firmly believe that every department in our county is deserving. It is a privilege to serve alongside such dedicated firefighters, and we are proud to be part of a county that values service, teamwork, and community.

Thank you for the honor, and thank you to everyone who supports fire service across Winston County.
