May is National Foster Care Month

This week, the Dothan Tuesday Rotary Club was honored to welcome Alyze and Rae from the Houston County Department of Human Resources to speak with our members about the growing need for foster families in our community.

We learned more about the life changing impact foster parents can have and the many ways individuals and families can get involved in supporting children in need. From opening your home to offering support and encouragement, every effort makes a difference.

Thank you to Houston County DHR for sharing your heart, your mission, and the important work being done every day to serve local children and families.

Their 10 week foster family class is starting on June 10th!

This week, we had the pleasure of hearing from fellow Rotarian and CEO of Wiregrass United Way Walter Hill. Walter gave us an exciting look ahead at plans for the upcoming campaign. We all love his passion for serving our community and creating lasting impact! And you know it’s hard to say NO when Walter asks you to serve with the United Way.

We also heard from Katie Saliba, who will serve as the Houston County Board chair for 2026-2027.

We appreciate her leadership and commitment to helping make the next campaign a success.

Thank you to both Walter and Katie for joining us and for all they do to strengthen the Wiregrass community!

Last week, we were proud to celebrate National Library Week 2026 at Rotary as we recognized the incredible impact our local libraries have on education, connection, and lifelong learning.

We also enjoyed a brief message from Chris Warren with the Dothan Houston County Library System, who shared valuable updates about the resources, programs, and services our libraries provide to the community. Our area library has lost nearly $99,000 in revenue due to passport processing changes, making community support more important than ever.

We encourage everyone to consider giving back and supporting our local libraries so they can continue serving and enriching our community for years to come. Thank you to Chris for joining us and for all those who work hard to keep our libraries thriving. 📚

We were honored to welcome Dustin Rivenbark as our guest speaker this week!

Dustin delivered a powerful message on how our voice truly matters, encouraging each of us to speak with purpose, lead with intention, and never underestimate the impact we can have on others.

He also addressed the growing mental health crisis, challenging us to be more aware, more compassionate, and more willing to show up for those around us.

As one of the founders of Built Different Speakers Academy, Dustin is equipping individuals to confidently use their voice to influence, inspire, and lead.

This week, we were excited to welcome our Tuesday speaker, Teresa Shufflebarger from Live HealthSmart Alabama at UAB.

Teresa shared valuable insights on building healthier communities and highlighted the impactful work being done through Live HealthSmart Alabama. It was an inspiring and informative program that reminded us all of the important role we play in creating a healthier future.
