Email Follow-up

Dear DPS Families,

On Tuesday evening, our school email system was affected by a phishing email incident. As soon as the issue was identified, the ESU and Mr. Rut began working to resolve the situation. The phishing emails were being sent from my account, notifications were sent advising recipients not to open or click on any emails received from Dr. Mumm on Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning.

I would like to thank Mr. Rut and the ESU for their quick response and work in addressing the situation. Most importantly, there is currently no indication of any breach involving student information or school records. Unfortunately, similar phishing incidents have recently impacted several school districts across Nebraska.

If you received the phishing email through your personal email account, please do not click on any links or attachments contained within the message. If you have already clicked on a link, we recommend changing your email password immediately and contacting your email provider for additional guidance and security recommendations.

Any student email accounts that may have been affected have been temporarily suspended as a precaution. Students who need access restored should contact the school office to receive a new password.

Because we do not know exactly who received the phishing email, if you did not receive one, please disregard this notice.

We wanted to make everyone aware that law enforcement agencies will be conducting a training exercise at Dorchester Public Schools today. All scheduled activities will continue as normal.
