We’ve got an interesting situation here.
The snow pack is melting off leaving saturated ground, covered with dead vegetation that has been freeze dried for the last week. On top of that, snow deposits nitrogen which can make for some spectacular fire behavior. Then remember the ground has frozen and thawed repeatedly and is still soft and wet under the fuel- which can get your vehicle or machinery stuck in close proximity to the fire.
Be careful out there. -Jeremy

Tonight, Jeremy retired as Chief of the department after serving our community for 20 years. Over the last several years, he carried forward what John Epley and Monte Shipley built from the ground up with unwavering dedication. Jeremy responded to nearly every single call—always ready to serve. He comforted others in difficult moments, led with integrity, and remained a man of his word.

This decision did not come lightly, but it is one that is deeply earned. Thank you, Jeremy McKee, for your years of service, leadership, and commitment to our community in this capacity. Your impact will not be forgotten. 🤍

We also wish Chris McFarland well as he steps into the role of Chief.

Everyone seems to agree some sort of winter storm is coming.
Be prepared to be snowed in for an extended period of time. A little precipitation can be the difference between a pleasant winter adventure or a miserable and possibly life threatening ordeal.
Do any shopping or precipitation BEFORE the weather is expected to turn bad. Understand that roads could be impassable for days after the snowfall- depending on your area and the work load on the road crews.
Any travel should be postponed once the event begins unless absolutely necessary.
Emergency crews will be dealing with the same weather so response times will be prolonged at best and simply unavailable at worst.
A few precautions you should take:
- Adequate supply of food and water that will allow you to remain at home until conditions allow safe travel.
- Enough prescription medications to last the duration of the storm and aftermath.
- Emergency kit for vehicles.
- Warm clothing on hand.
- Adequate fuel on hand.
Check your primary and secondary heating sources to ensure they are up to the strain of extended use.
Everyone stay safe out there.

We have a nice break from the cold weather. Now’s a good time to let your wood stoves and fireplaces cool down and give them a good cleaning. Be sure to check for creosote build up in the hard to reach areas.
The rain we got the other day was great but it wasn’t much and the high winds really dried out the flash fuels like dead grass and leaves- so be very careful with any burning.

Remember your critters and folks who don’t take the cold real well too.

Nope not today. Once you start a fire in 40 mph. wind, you can’t just change your mind. Please be careful out there.

Lots of us like to decorate with Christmas lights this time of year.
Take a moment to check that you’re not overloading circuits by drawing too much power. Outdoor outlets should be GFCI protected and cords shouldn’t feel warm to touch. If you’re planning on being away from home you may think of turning the lights off or having them on a timer. Enjoy the season safely.

Everyone is probably cranking up their favorite method of heating with this little cold snap.
Whatever you use be sure it’s properly cleaned and inspected before putting it into hard use.
If you use wood, propane or anything that combusts,be sure to have carbon monoxide detectors as well as smoke detectors/ alarms.
