After reviewing the dash camera footage from Unit 453, the video shows the officer entering the parking lot by turning left onto 1st Street NE from N. Walton Bridge Road near the garden center side of The Home Depot.

Unit 453 was attempting to turn left in front of Home Depot when a gold Toyota Tacoma failed to yield the right-of-way, nearly striking the patrol unit. The officer then activated his emergency blue lights and conducted a traffic stop in the parking lot of Jim 'N Nick's Bar-B-Q to ensure the driver was not impaired or otherwise endangering other motorists.

Upon making contact, the officer determined the driver simply did not see the patrol vehicle. After completing the stop, the officer deactivated his emergency lights, returned to service, and proceeded behind Jim ’N Nick’s and into the parking lot of Chick-fil-A, where he entered the drive-thru line to order food.

At no time did the officer drive on the wrong side of the roadway. He did not proceed through an intersection using lights and siren, and he did not violate department policy during the interaction or at any point throughout the incident. The officer resides in the Jasper area and was getting something to eat prior to the start of his shift.

I have elected not to release the video publicly in order to protect the privacy of the Tacoma’s driver, as the vehicle information and the drivers identity has not been redacted.

Effect May 01, 2026 ALL Dora Fire and Ems Service calls will be routed through 911.

What does this mean? If you have a fire, wreck, medical emergency or other need for DFRS call 911

Why are we making a change? Essentially because it is better for our community. We teach children to utilize the number 911, tax dollars go to support the 911 system, communication is our life stream, reduction of dispatch times. The list goes on and on.

Remember this does NOT affect the police department. For more information there is an article coming in the Daily Mountain Eagle and a reminder on your water bills. We will continue to push this information for change out. If you have any questions please reach out to Chief Booth at 205-255-6780
