We’re excited to announce that online payments and automatic draft are now available through the City of Doerun’s new utility customer portal!

To get started, visit:

https://www.cityofdoerun.com/

Once you create your account and profile, you can:

• Make online payments anytime
• View your utility account information
• Sign up for automatic bank draft payments
• Manage your utility account online

We encourage all utility customers to take a few minutes to create their account and explore the new portal.

**Customers currently enrolled in automatic draft should note that our existing draft system will be discontinued in the near future. To continue using automatic draft, you will need to create an account in the new portal and enroll in automatic payments there.**

As with any new system, there may be a few bumps in the road as we continue fine-tuning the process. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through any issues that may arise and make improvements along the way.

**Need help? Give City Hall a call at (229) 782-5444 during normal business hours.** If you're unable to set up your account yourself, our staff will be happy to assist you or even complete the setup process for you.

Thank you for your patience as we continue improving our utility billing services.

We want to give our citizens a quick heads up about some work taking place tomorrow related to the Highway 133 widening project.

Due to ongoing utility relocations, temporary interruptions to water service are expected between approximately 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM. These interruptions are expected to be brief and could affect different areas of the city at different times.

Once service is restored, customers may notice air in the lines or cloudy water caused by tiny air bubbles. This is normal after service interruptions and should clear up after running cold water for a short time.

We appreciate everyone’s patience as this important infrastructure work continues.

Mayor J.B. Walters served as Mayor of the City of Doerun from 1935 to 1940, and these old documents give us a really interesting look back at our city’s history. In May 1936, Mayor Walters called a joint meeting between the Doerun City Council and the Board of Education to discuss adding more space to the local school as more students were coming into Doerun. The original notice was typed on his service station letterhead and asked council members to gather for the special meeting on May 14, 1936.

At that meeting, city leaders and school board members agreed to move forward with plans to expand the school building. The City Council approved contributing $1,250 from the city’s Water and Light funds to help with the project, which was a major investment at the time. It’s neat to see that even 90 years ago, Doerun’s leaders were focused on supporting local schools and investing in the future of the community.
