πŸ’œ Elder Abuse Awareness πŸ’œ
There are 147 purple pinwheels β€” each one representing a reported incident of elder abuse or neglect in Iowa County last year. This visual reminder shows how many older adults in our community have been affected and how important it is for all of us to stay aware and involved.
Awareness is the first step toward prevention.
Let’s work together to see it, stop it, and prevent it.
Take a stand against elder abuse.

Today is EMS Safety Day!

We would like to extend our gratitude to our members and public service colleagues for their dedication to protecting each other, patients, and the public. ⛑️πŸ₯½πŸ§―😷

The Safety Day initiative focuses on several core areas:
🀝 😊 Mental Health: Highlighting stress reduction, self-care, and burnout prevention for first responders. This is something EMS has greatly improved within the past five years. Iowa county also developed a peer support team composed of EMS personnel, law enforcement, fire and rescue, mental health and healthcare professionals, as well as a chaplain, to serve those on the front lines.
πŸš‘ πŸ› οΈ Operational Readiness: Encourages strict vehicle maintenance, proper lifting techniques, and situational awareness. As EMS, we take pride in our ride and always check to ensure our equipment is maintained and ready to go. Our trainings often include ensuring proper lifting techniques and exercising situational awareness.
⚠️ ☣️ Violence Awareness: Involves recognizing potential danger and ensuring responder safety before entering a scene, such as assessing for hazards or needing proper PPE before approaching. Many of our team members have specialized education in these areas and help facilitate service and collaborative trainings.

On EMS Education Day, we honor the tireless efforts of EMS providers to advance their knowledge, skills, and practice. Our public education initiatives, such as CPR, First Aid, and Stop the Bleed classes, reflect our commitment to community outreach. Regular training exercises, including those with other agencies, enable us to enhance our collaborative response capabilities. As EMS members, we apply our compassion, skills, and expertise not only to deliver patient care but also to fulfill roles as instructors, mentors, and coaches.
We would like to recognize the valuable contributions of our members and all EMS providers for their extra dedication to education, which may not be widely recognized.

Happy EMS Week 2026 to all the current members along with the agencies that we respond with. This year’s National EMS Week theme is, β€œImproving Outcomes, Together.” This concept extends beyond medicine and focuses on a collective responsibility to invest in the providers who are dedicated to serving their communities and saving lives. Let us take a moment to reflect on the incredible work that first responders do and to show our gratitude for their service.

To our current and past mothers, who, at a moment's notice, put their family time on hold to assist those in need. To the mothers who skillfully manage the home front during our absence and patiently await our return from emergency calls. To the mothers who, upon hearing sirens, experience a mix of emotions, from pride to worry, knowing their children are on the front lines of emergency response. We are deeply grateful for your dedication and support. We wish you all a very happy Mother's Day!
