For the first time ever, the Surry County Association of Rescue Squads (SCARS) now has a website of its own: www.surryrescuesquads.org ! Find your local squad, learn more about rescue agencies, and keep up to date with SCARS.

Background:

Surry County is home to 6 primary rescue jurisdictions: Mountain Park, Elkin, Mount Airy, Pilot Mountain, Dobson, & Pinnacle. Over the years, a need has existed to help prospective volunteers learn more about rescue squads as well as determine what district they live in. Unlike other types of agencies, this information is not as easily accessible not as straightforaward as some may think. As a part of the 2025 SCARS Strategic Plan, a website was built and launched that would serve as a "landing page" to help the public access all 6 primary rescue agencies. We are proud to be able to contribute to the literature and public information around rescue squads and increase transparency and access of the Association's proceedings.

Yesterday was a big day as we kicked off our first County-Wide Rescue Training Day! Instructors and rescuers from several rescue squads came together to practice skills both on ropes and on heavy/vehicle rescue.

Was a very long night for Squad 84, Station 9, Surry County Sheriff’s Department,Yadkin County Sheriff’s Department and Yadkin County EMS. We all came together and worked as one team on a very difficult call.

Interested in becoming a Communication Specialist for Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Air Care?
You will assist in taking calls for service and dispatching appropriate assets to various facilities and agencies within our region.
The ideal candidate would come from an emergency dispatch or emergency service background with the capability to provide exceptional customer service and communication.
Job Duties
• Receive information from various sources for emergency services including telephone calls, radio calls and information sent via monitoring equipment.
• Dispatch AirCare, ground and air ambulances, and neonatal transports to complete the service.
• Dispatch the Brenner Transport Team and/or AirCare Ground Transport to transport patients as requested by area hospitals.
• Ensure safety of AirCare flight crew by being responsible for AirCare dispatching, flight following information, and tracking.
Education/Experience
• High School diploma, required
• Certified EMT, AMT or EMT-P or Emergency Medical Dispatch, Required
• American Heart Association BCLS or BTLS required
• Minimum two years’ Emergency (911) Dispatch experience and/or Emergency Services experience is preferred
