Your mental health is key to your overall health and when your mental or emotional state is making it difficult for you to manage stress, relationships, or everyday responsibilities, it’s time to talk to someone.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a great reminder of just how important emotional well-being is and how healthy coping skills matter for kids and families alike. Mental health isn’t just about managing feelings; it plays a powerful role in how kids cope with stress, make decisions, and avoid risky behaviors like underage drinking.
Through our work helping kids stay alcohol- and substance-free, we truly believe that conversations make a difference. Talking openly about mental health is a big part of those conversations. The need for more information about mental health is clear for both kids and parents.

According to Responsibility.org’s 2025 Parents and Kids Survey,

59% of kids say they worry about stress or anxiety, and

44% have worried about their mental health.

Parents are feeling it too, with more than three out of four parents saying they’re worried about their child’s stress, anxiety, mental health, and emotional well-being. Recent research confirms that over half of U.S. adolescents (ages 12–17) are exposed to alcohol marketing while engaging in daily activities, such as browsing the internet or streaming video. This high exposure rate is linked to increased or accelerated alcohol use among teenagers.

The "Normalizing" Effect:
These ads often portray alcohol as a normal, positive part of social life, which influences teens' perceptions and increases the likelihood of them initiating or binge-drinking.

What Can Be Done??

Increased Vigilance
Parental Monitoring:
Greater parental supervision is associated with lower exposure to online alcohol advertising.
Digital Literacy:
Experts advise educating teenagers on how to identify and critically evaluate marketing tactics. This issue is increasingly considered a major public health concern, particularly as social media continues to blur the lines between content and advertising. May is Mental Health Awareness Month 💚, and it's a powerful reminder that we don't have to carry the weight of "not-so-good" days alone. This year’s theme is "More Good Days, Together," and it’s a great reminder that healing is a community effort. Whether it’s checking in on a friend, taking a mental health day, or finally reaching out for support, every small step counts. You are not alone, and your mental health matters just as much as your physical health. Let’s make this month about breaking the stigma and supporting one another.💚 What’s one small thing you’re doing for your mental well-being today?
