The Friends of the Dobbs Ferry Library will show you how to make a scarecrow face so you can participate in the Scarecrow Parade on the Old Croton Aqueduct!.
This workshop can help you get started on your own scarecrow face, to be incorporated into a "parade" of scarecrows on the Old Croton Aqueduct Trail this fall!

Free, easy, open-air walk of approximately 3 miles/hours. Meet at Aqueduct Ventilator #12, on the Aqueduct Trail just steps south of the intersection of Gory Brook Road and Ridge Street in Sleepy Hollow (on-street parking on Gory Brook Road north of intersection). We will walk north and discuss the Aqueduct and view some of its structures, including a weir, a 90-foot high embankment carrying the Aqueduct over the Pocantico River, the ghostly remnants of an old Keeper’s House, touch upon Rockefeller history and the monument in nearby Sleepy Hollow Cemetery to those in the NY Guard’s First Provisional Regiment who perished during the 1918 Spanish Influenza pandemic while guarding the Aqueduct during The Great War.

Required: pre-registration. Walk may be rescheduled if weather does not cooperate

Presentation by Cornelia Cotton

This is an amazing presentation given by Cornelia Cotton at the Keeper's House a couple of years ago to much acclaim and a packed house! This presentation includes new materials. Not to be missed!

When Cornelia Cotton opened an art gallery in Croton in 1979, one of the earliest gallery shows was called “Croton Water”– the first time that prints, maps, and ephemera of the Old Croton Aqueduct were shown as an art exhibit. Cornelia was active on efforts to preserve the Aqueduct early on, and after the Friends of the Old Croton Aqueduct (FOCA) was founded she served on its board for many years. Her presentation will feature a wide variety of images of sites along the Aqueduct, which ran from the Town of Yorktown to The Bronx, crossed the High Bridge over the East River into Manhattan and continued to Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street at the site of the New York Public Library.

Join us for a special evening outside of the Keeper's House to hear how two local families – the Dyckmans and the Odells – fought, survived, and altered the course of the war in Westchester's Neutral Ground.

Exhibit on display at the Keeper’s House during open hours, Sat/Sun 1-4pm

One of the most fabulous features of our Trailway experience is the spectacular views of the Palisades. We’ll be exploring these views—and the history of what we can see from our trail—in an upcoming exhibit and program series.

Check out a new exhibit at the Keeper’s House featuring a collection of acrylic paintings by local artist Edward “Bear” Miller, exploring views of the Palisades from along the Hudson River. The collection invites us to contemplate the geological and social history of the Palisades, as well as the history of the industrial structures that still dot our shoreline.

Stop by the Keeper’s House during open hours to see the exhibit and learn more!

Approximately 5 miles, 4 hours

This is the final walk of the 41 Mile Challenge. For those who have walked the entire 26 miles of the Old Croton Aqueduct in Westchester, completing all 3 of these walks entitles you to a 41 Mile Patch & Certificate. For this walk, we will enjoy a stroll across Central Park and will end at the Main Branch of the NYC Public Library on 42nd Sreet.

Walks will be held on the following Wednesdays: 9/23, 10/7 and 10/21.

Registration required: In the event of inclement weather, alternate dates will be offered.

The Old Croton Aqueduct between Dobbs Ferry and Hastings-on-Hudson crosses several colonial tenant farms impacted by the Revolutionary War. Walk and learn how the war divided neighbors and families into patriots or loyalists and everything in between. Discuss their lives in the dangerous, war-torn contested ground of Westchester County and how it shaped our area following its conclusion.
