Last night, members of Dixon Fire responded to Benicia as part of the Solano County Hazardous Materials Team. Our HazMat team members train alongside personnel from agencies throughout the county and respond when additional resources are needed.

Earlier this week, Dixon Fire personnel deployed as part of a Solano County Strike Team to assist with the ongoing Timber and Plaskett fires in Monterey County. The strike team includes resources from Dixon, Fairfield Fire Department, Benicia Fire Department, St. Helena Fire Department and Calistoga Fire Department, bringing together firefighters from across the region to support ongoing wildfire operations.

Our Dixon crew remains assigned to the incident, working alongside firefighters from throughout California as crews continue suppression and structure protection efforts in challenging terrain. We’re proud of our personnel representing Dixon and grateful for the strong mutual aid partnerships that allow fire agencies to support one another.

PRESS RELEASE

Just before 6 a.m. this morning, August 31, the Dixon Fire Department received a 911 call for a reported residential structure fire in the 5000 block of Putah Creek Road in Winters, within the Dixon Fire Protection District.

A first-alarm response was initiated, and upon arrival, crews found an active structure fire and began an offensive attack. Following a roof collapse, crews transitioned to defensive operations to safely continue firefighting efforts. A second alarm was requested, bringing additional resources from neighboring agencies to assist. The fire remains very active, with more than 40 personnel currently on scene working to bring the incident under control. Crews are expected to remain on scene for several hours.

All occupants and pets are safely out of the residence and no injuries have been reported.

Putah Creek Road is currently closed between McNeil Road and Stevenson Bridge Road. Please avoid the area and allow emergency personnel to continue working safely.

The Dixon Fire Department would like to thank Winters Fire Department, UC Davis Fire Department, City of Davis Fire Department, Vacaville Fire Dept, Vacaville Fire Protection District, Fairfield Fire Department, West Plainfield Fire Department and Woodland Fire Department, as well as Medic Ambulance Service, Pacific Gas and Electric Company, the Solano County Sheriff's Office and the California Highway Patrol, for their assistance with this incident. We greatly appreciate the continued partnership and support of all agencies involved.

You’ve asked why both Dixon Fire stations are located on the same side of the railroad tracks. Here’s why Station 82 is being built where it is.

When a new fire station is built, one of the biggest factors is response time. Every second matters during an emergency.

đź“Ť Station Locations: Station 82, located at Pitt School Road and Lavender Lane, was selected using response-time data to improve emergency response to west Dixon.

📍 2019 Response-Time Map: Even before much of today’s development occurred, neighborhoods west of Pitt School Road were already outside the five-minute travel area. This response gap has existed for years and was an important factor in selecting the Station 82 location.

Fire station locations aren’t determined by railroad tracks alone. They are based on response-time modeling, current and future development, roadway access and the department’s ability to serve the community.

We understand the concern about both stations being on the same side of the railroad tracks. While trains can occasionally impact response times, the future Parkway Boulevard Overcrossing is expected to improve east-west connectivity and reduce train-related delays, currently expected to break ground in 2027. On the rare occasion a train creates a significant delay, such as a stopped train, the department evaluates coverage needs and, when appropriate, stages an engine on the south side of Dixon to help maintain emergency response coverage.

It’s also important to remember that every Dixon Fire engine is staffed with firefighter/paramedics who provide Advanced Life Support (ALS). No matter which station responds, our crews arrive prepared to provide advanced emergency medical care.

Every station location involves tradeoffs. Our responsibility is to place stations where they provide the fastest, most effective response for the greatest number of emergencies while planning for Dixon’s future.

Earlier today, Engine 81 and UC Davis Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle collision on I-80 where they met Renny and his humans.

While his humans worked on securing safe transportation to continue their travels, Engine 81’s crew brought Renny back to Station 81 to hang out with our on-duty crews and enjoy some AC.

Once everything was squared away, Renny’s family stopped by the station to pick him up, with time for a quick station tour before everyone was back on the road.

PRESS RELEASE

At approximately 3:52 a.m. this morning, the Dixon Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a fully involved structure fire on Winding Way in the unincorporated Vacaville area within the Dixon Fire Protection District.

Upon arrival, crews found a vacant residential structure fully involved. The home was unoccupied and listed for sale at the time of the incident.

Due to the extent of the fire upon arrival, firefighters initiated defensive operations, working from the exterior of the structure to contain the fire. Crews also utilized defensive tactics around the property to protect the surrounding vegetation and prevent further fire spread. An accessory dwelling unit (ADU) on the property was successfully protected from the fire. The fire was brought under control at approximately 4:38 a.m. Dixon Fire crews remained on scene for several hours conducting mop-up operations and checking for remaining hot spots.

Mutual aid was provided by the Vacaville Fire Department, UC Davis Fire Department and City of Davis Fire Department. Mutual aid resources also assisted with coverage at Dixon Fire Station 81 while Dixon crews remained committed to the incident. The Dixon Fire Department extends its appreciation to our neighboring agencies for their assistance and continued partnership in supporting emergency response throughout the region.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
