What an incredible way to start the summer! Our Summer Reading Kick-Off Carnival brought the community together for a day full of laughter, creativity and fun. From meeting adorable animals in the petting zoo šŸšŸ“ to enjoying hands-on crafts, lively music and exciting games, there was something for everyone to enjoy. Families had the chance to snap photos with fun characters, cool off with delicious ice cream treats and celebrate the joy of reading together. A Delicious Evening at HHH Library with Them's The Breaks! Our How to Hummus class was a flavorful success! Participants whipped up a variety of delicious hummus creations, including:
šŸŒŸ Plain with Pine Nuts
šŸ… Sun-Dried Tomato
šŸŒæ Basil Pesto
šŸŒ¶ļø Crushed Red Pepper
šŸ„Æ Everything But the Bagel
šŸ« Chocolate (yesā€”chocolate!)
These tasty spreads were enjoyed with an amazing assortment of pairings: fresh veggies, pita bread, pita crackers, Greek salad, pretzels, strawberries, and graham crackers. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this fun and flavorful experience.

The Childrenā€™s Department had a stellar time at the Trek Convention! In our ā€œnot-so-spacious final frontier,ā€ we welcomed young cadets across out-of-this-world programsā€”and the energy was truly warp speed! Our crew explored a galaxy of activities, including:
šŸ›ø Badge creation ā€“ every cadet earned their place in Starfleet
šŸ“– Choose-your-own-adventure games ā€“ because the needs of the manyā€¦ depend on your choices!
šŸ¤– Moxie ā€“ who definitely had a sense of humor that wasā€¦ highly illogical (and hilarious!)
šŸ§¶ Tribble making ā€“ thankfully, no overpopulation incidents were reported
šŸ“š Comic book creation ā€“ where imagination boldly took the lead
šŸŽ® Our retro video games transported participants back in time at impulse power, with special sessions plus open play for parents on Sundayā€”proving fun is universal across generations!

Fun Fact:
A 17-year-old student from Ohio designed the current American flag!!

In 1958, with Alaska and Hawaii likely to become states, Bob Heft decided to design a 50-star flag for a history project during his junior year of high school. Heft cut up his parentsā€™ 48-star flag and borrowed his motherā€™s sewing machine to create his design. Although he received a B- for his project, Heft sent his arrangement to his congressman, Walter Moeller. Following the admission of both new states in 1959, Moeller proposed Heftā€™s flag to President Eisenhower. Eisenhower chose Heftā€™s design and invited him to Washington, DC for its first display on July 4, 1960. Heftā€™s teacher changed his grade to an A.
