Divernon Community Information The Village of Divernon is located just south of Springfield IL, the State Capital, along I55 The Village was founded in 1887 and named Divernon by H.C. Barnes.

About Divernon, Illinois

Divernon, Illinois is located just fifteen minutes south of Springfield, the State Capital, along Interstate 55 at exit 80. The name came from a heroine from Sir Walter Scott's Rob Roy book, her name was Diana Vernon and her friends called her Di Vernon. Divernon elected it's first board of trustees in 1900. Today Divernon has a population of 1200. A new TIF District was

approved in 2007 to gain new businesses and to help update other area. In 2007, the Divernon School District was dissolved due to declining enrollment and joined the Auburn School District. Auburn utilizes the Divernon school buildings for The Junior High for all students. Over the years, Divernon has seen the business atmosphere change. The Madison Coal Mine No. 6 and the Illinois Central Railroad used to be an integral part of the village, now both are gone. There are several family owned businesses, however, that have remained the mainstay of the community including Bramley Funeral Home, Emerson Press, Herman's Garage and Rettberg's Inc. and Patsy's on the Square. There are other family owned businesses that are an integral part of the business community, Bolash Roofing & Construction, Inc., Bonita's Portrait Studio, Lisa's Antique Malls and Wilson Construction. There are many other business in Divernon including gas stations, taverns, constructions companies, hair salons, craft malls, restaurants and the Illini Bank and United Community Bank. Divernon is unique to most towns in Sangamon County in that the main part of town and the residential area are located at Exit 80 and a large business district is located at Exit 82 and Route 104. Come and enjoy what generations of families have enjoyed in Divernon, the relaxing atmosphere of life in a small town. Stop by to visit, shop, dine or wet your whistle at one of our local businesses. You will also find Divernon an excellent place to live, a place where you will actually get to know your neighbors and make life long friends.

Important Notice Regarding Auto Pay Re-Enrollment.

Residents will notice a message on their bill this month regarding Auto Pay re-enrollment.

Please note that this notice only applies to residents who are currently enrolled in Auto Pay. If you are currently enrolled, you will receive a separate printed notice in the mail with instructions on how to re-enroll in Auto Pay.

No action is required at this time for residents who are not currently enrolled in Auto Pay.

Please call the Village Hall at 217-628-3416 with any questions.

The Village is giving residents the opportunity to purchase a flagpole banner to honor a Veteran. Please see the flyer below and the form that will need to be filled out and returned to the Village Office. There are only 37 banners available so this will be first come first serve. We are still working through final designs but in the comments there are a few designs given to us by Ace Sign that they have used in other communities.

Hello Everyone! The week is finally here! I just wanted to remind everyone of our tournaments this weekend!

Basketball tournament age groups will be 13 and under and 14 and older, and winners will receive customizable championship shirts from Emerson Press!

Winners of the Pickleball tournament will receive gift cards.

The Co****le tournament will be a random draw with a $10 buy-in. Winners (and possible place winners) will split the pot based on the number of entries!

Reminder today is the day to come check out the progress on the new gas station and meet the owner. He will be providing grilled chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs to eat as well as soft drinks and beer to drink. This will go from 12pm-3pm

Come out to meet owner Shamsher and support his new Phillips 66 gas station on July 4th from 12-3pm. He is hosting a Meet & Greet to discuss the project and show off the progress. He is also providing food and drinks while they last!!
