Dinwiddie County Fire & EMS is responsible for the delivery of fire services, emergency medical services and the emergency/disaster management program. The Division uses a combination of career personnel and over 200 volunteers to deliver these services. Fire services are provided from six fire stations that are located throughout the County. Services delivered include fire suppression, fire prev

ention, public education, code enforcement, hazardous materials response and rescue services. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) are provided from four of the County’s fire stations. EMS provides first response and transport services at the advanced and basic life support levels. The emergency/disaster management program for the County is also handled by the Division of Fire & EMS. This program is primarily responsible to maintain the various emergency plans for the County including the Dinwiddie County Emergency Operations Plan, the Hazardous Materials Emergency Response Plan and the Disaster Mitigation Plan. The emergency management program is also responsible for maintaining the County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and staffing the EOC and coordinating response during major events that affect the County.

Knowing how to safely yield helps emergency responders get where they need to go. If an emergency vehicle is approaching, stay alert, safely move out of its path and follow your state's laws.

🚨 When approaching a stopped emergency vehicle with flashing lights, move into a non-adjacent lane or slow down if you can't safely change lanes. Move Over laws are in all 50 states!

There’s always something new to learn in the world of 911 and we love seeing our team continue to grow!

A special shout-out to our in-house instructor, Senior Shift Supervisor Derrick Hanks, for sharing his knowledge and experience with our team this week! We appreciate the time and dedication you put into helping public safety telecommunicators strengthen their skills.

We’re excited for our team members to take in all the knowledge, build on their skills, and bring even more experience back to the center. After all, learning never stops when you’re committed to providing the best possible service to your community!
