Since Riley has been returned to her owner let's look at what worked.
The finder immediately reported finding the dog to animal control. They didn't keep her for a couple days first then report her. They reported finding her IMMEDIATELY.
The owner immediately notified animal control that Riley was missing. They didn't wait a couple of days "in hopes" that she would return. They called with in the hour (basically with in minutes) of her missing.
Those 2 things together made this return happen quickly!

Please remember that when you find a stray pet you should call animal control immediately. Most animal controls maintain a FB page that will post missing/found pets. Call the local non emergency number for animal control, leave a message and send the information to their FB pages by PM. IF you lose your pet, report it to animal control. Most shelters maintain a lost/found book and if that pet comes in, animal control will be able to make the connection quickly.

Dinwiddie County Animal Control can be reached by calling 804-469-3755. The shelter can be reached by calling 804-469-4547. The Dinwiddie County Animal Control FB page can be private messaged anytime.
