Summer heat can sneak up quickly.
Please make sure your family drinks plenty of water, takes breaks in the shade, and watches for signs of overheating. Slides, concrete, and play surfaces can get very hot in direct sunlight, so check surfaces before children play.
Enjoy our parks safely this summer by being aware of the environment and being prepared.
Know the signs of a heat stroke:
Body temperature of 103°F or higher
Hot, red skin that may be dry or damp
Fast, strong pulse
Confusion, slurred speech, or acting disoriented
Dizziness or fainting
Nausea or vomiting
Severe headache
Seizures
Loss of consciousness
Heat stroke is a medical emergency. Call 911 immediately if someone shows these signs. Move them to a cooler place, loosen clothing, and cool them with water, wet towels, fans, or ice packs while waiting for help. Do not give anything to drink if they are confused, unconscious, or vomiting.
