The California State Firefighters' Association is partnering with the El Dorado Hills Fire Department and Folsom Fire Department to bring the NorCal Fire Explorer Muster. Mark your calendars for Saturday, September 28th. This event will be held at the EDH Fire Training Center. Fire Explorer Teams across the region are invited to sign up for this no-cost event which will include muster events, apparatus display and a recruitment fair.

For information only, there will be a large law enforcement and fire personnel presence in the El Dorado Hills Business Park the week of June 17th thru June 21st. The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office in conjunction with El Dorado Hills Fire Department is conducting an emergency response training exercise in the business park. All efforts have been made not to impede normal daily business activities.

STOP THE BLEED! If you know how to stop serious bleeding before first responders arrive, you can save lives. On average it only takes 3-5 minutes to bleed out from life threatening injuries. The average response time for first responders is 7-10 minutes. STOP THE BLEED is a campaign to teach those who have not had any first responder training to recognize and immediately treat serious bleeding. It's ! Today is Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Education Day.

Do you ever wonder what it takes to work in EMS?

To become an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), you need a high school diploma or GED, followed by 170 hours of state-approved training. After completing the program, you must pass the CPR certification and the NREMT (National Registry) exams. EMTs also need to undergo a background check and apply for state certification. Maintaining certification requires 24 hours of continuing education every two years.

Paramedics in California must first be certified as EMTs and often need some work experience. The paramedic training program involves 1,200 to 1,800 hours of advanced coursework, clinical rotations, and field internships. Certification requires ACLS training and passing the NREMT-P (National Registry) exams. Paramedics must apply for state licensure and undergo a background check. Paramedics must also be evaluated locally to obtain accreditation to work in each separate local EMS system where they will provide care.

Paramedics need 48 hours of continuing education every two years. Both must also undergo skills competency verification. Many paramedics pursue additional certifications such as PALS, PHTLS, and AMLS to enhance their expertise and career opportunities.
