As a retired Pomona Unified School District teacher and vice principal, I believe in the District's mission of providing a world-class educational system. With your vote and as your Trustee, I will work hard to ensure that every student excels in academic and career pathways that sustain personal growth and contribute to the success of our students' future beyond their educational years with Pomona Unified. I will return your voices, as parents and community stakeholders, to the classroom by increasing our outreach efforts and better incorporating these diverse voices and experiences into the educational process. In addition, I will be a strong watchdog for our hard-earned tax dollars, ensuring that these monies are invested right where they belong - in our classrooms and for our students.
As your Trustee, I will focus on:
CAREER AND COLLEGE PREPARATION:
Preparing parents and students, starting in middle school, for Career & College Readiness. As your Trustee, I will work to cultivate a robust catalog of specialized career pathway programs that will prepare our high school students for entering into competitive high-employment trades and careers, and develop high-quality academic programs that would allow high schoolers to earn transferable credits toward college - saving time and money for families.
SCHOOL SAFETY:
Providing a safe and secure environment for our students to learn and staff to educate. When you drop your child off to our campuses, you will be assured that the District has implemented the procedures and deployed the resources necessary to keep our students safe while in our care.
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY:
I will be a prudent steward of the District's finances and work to ensure that your tax dollars are spent appropriately and on budget. When it comes to District finances, our students, classrooms and teachers come first!
STUDENT EQUITY:
I am a firm believer that a student's demographics and socioeconomic background do not determine their destiny. My priority is to ensure that our District and schools of all grade levels continue to support ALL of our students with an environment, curriculum and mentorship that empowers them to achieve at the highest levels. No child will be in-need while in our care. We will empower success and activate the potential of EVERY student to achieve equitable outcomes - we will defy the odds!
INCREASE ACCESS TO MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT
I will advocate to strengthen the quality and availability of mental health services and peer support programs available to students, teachers and staff district-wide. As your Trustee, I am not only here to ensure that the minds of our students and staff are enriched, but that the person, as a whole, is taken care of.
STRONG ATHLETIC AND ARTISTIC PROGRAMS:
I recognize the value of strong athletic and artistic programming. These skilled and creative outlets are just as important to a well-rounded student as our academics.
As we near the end of this campaign season, I would like to thank my friends, long-time supporters and all the new members of team that I have met along the way.
