BEACH OPEN, ALL TOWN ROADWAYS ARE PASSABLE.

As of 09/28/2026 at 9:00 am the beach is OPEN. Please use caution at beach access points due to extreme beach erosion.

All bayside streets are open and passable, although you may encounter some standing water.

The Dewey Beach Police and Maintenance Team continue their work today to keep our residents and visitors safe through the nor'easter.

High tide is expected at 12:00pm today. Flood water is already high on the bay side, and southbound streets from Bellevue/Bayard south to Anchor Way are closed.

We anticipate that DelDOT will once again close RT 1 south of Dewey Beach. It is possible that RT 1 southbound near Read Ave MAY need to be temporarily shut down as was done yesterday during the afternoon high tide.

Please call the Dewey Beach Police Department at (302) 227-1110 if you require assistance. Our dispatchers have received many calls asking when the water will recede, or asking about conditions outside of town. We cannot provide answers to these questions. Please call DelDOT Transportation Management at 302-659-4600 or visit deldot.gov for more information on roadway closures.

The following roadways are closed due to high water and are impassable:

Dickinson- Bayside
Read- Bayside
Dagsworthy-Bayside

Another round of flooding is expected in Dewey Beach during tonight's high tide at 11:20pm. If your vehicle is parked on the bay side (RT 1 southbound), especially from the corner of Bellevue St/Bayard Ave, south to Anchor Way, consider moving your vehicle to higher ground.
šŸŽ„ Video is from high tide this afternoon around 11:40am. Similar conditions are expected this evening.

Our dispatch has been receiving inquiries about Coastal Highway:

As of 09/26/2026 at 4:50 pm Coastal Highway is Open in both the Southbound and Northbound lanes within the Town limits.

The Town of Dewey Beach, Delaware, cannot advise on changing conditions on Coastal Highway outside our town limits.

Delaware Route 1 through Delaware Seashore State Park is not handled by DBPD, and we do not control those closures.

For the most current roadway conditions and closure information, motorists can contact the DelDOT Transportation Management Center at 302-659-4600

With large storms moving into the region and rain in the forecast through the weekend, we want to remind beachgoers:

-Beach Patrol has no personnel on duty. It is officially the off-season. Please do not enter the water.

-Please use caution on the beach. Large waves that break on shore can sweep you off your feet and pull you into the water.

-Please use caution on the beach and mind the powerful high surf.

Effects from this week's nor'easter will continue through the weekend. Rounds of major coastal flooding are expected. Storm force winds are expected throughout Saturday, with gusts up to 60mph.
Secure all outdoor items. Flooding from the bay side is imminent - move vehicles to higher ground away from the bay.
