This week we heard from Hunter Parisien, Behavioral Health Coordinator at Aspire Services. Hunter runs the Growth and Engagement Center located in the Hope Center building downtown. The recovery program started in March 2026, contracted thru the state Dept of Health Human Services. Currently they have 200 active members utilizing one or more of their 23 offered services, one being a noon meal every weekday and every other Saturday. Hunter stated they serve between 35-50 individuals daily.
They always welcome donations of prepared meals, food donations or cash donations.
*Rotary will be donating all leftovers from our Sept 17 Annual Spaghetti Feed as well as a percentage of the profit made on the event to be used towards meals.

Tiffany Ervin joined us via Zoom about CART (Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust). Tiffany is Past District 7670 Governor and is CART’s executive director. CART is in 31 states in the country. This last year $4.5 million was raised and donated to Alzheimer research.

District 15 Representative Kathy Frelich updated us on the legislative special session coming in September. Twenty bills were proposed and five were approved to go to the session. Two regard Kratom, one for the North Dakota Military Museum, one for political subdivision NDAs, and one regarding property tax.

Michelle and Michael DeFoe presented today on their roles in the St. Vincent de Paul Society affiliated with St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

It has been active for 17 years in Devils Lake and provides tangible assistance to people in need, on a person-to-person basis. Their assistance can include emergency rent, utilities, food, clothing, household goods, and/or referral services.

Today we heard from Buck and Dawn Hamre of Fishing Has No Boundaries...a fishing event for individuals with disabilities. Devils Lake is the only chapter in ND...there are two in MN and several chapters in states of the Midwest/Plains.
This was Devils Lake's 18th annual fishing event...having started in 2008 with 2 participants. This year they had 85 participants, using 26 boats and 9 pontoons, all owners graciously volunteering the use of their boats and often serving as boat captains. There is a gem in the Lake Region called Camp Grafton. First Lieutenant David Susterick updated Rotary on Camp Grafton happenings. Camp Grafton has many tenant organizations including Garrison HQ and 164 Regional Training Institute. The RTI has close to 3,000 students per year through the officer candidate school. A multitude of training capabilities are run at Camp Grafton including demolitions, weapons qualifications, and maneuver training.

Rotary learned about Head Start and Early Explorers Head Start located in Devils Lake, Towner, and other area communities.
Director Allison Dybing-Driessen said the the organization works with more than 120 families. They are dedicated to providing quality early childhood education building strong skills one day at a time.
