Over the weekend, a large oak tree came crashing down on our box truck, badly damaging one of the most important tools we have to keep food moving throughout our community.
A big thank you to H.M. Flagg Tree Services from Ayer, for coming out quickly on a rainy Sunday to safely remove the tree and help us begin dealing with the damage.
We use this truck to pick up large food orders from the Greater Boston Food Bank, bringing thousands of pounds of groceries back to Loaves & Fishes for our neighbors. Its reach goes beyond our Pantry, we also use it to pick up and deliver Greater Boston Food Bank orders for smaller area pantries that don’t have the transportation capacity to make those trips themselves.
While our truck is being repaired, the food still needs to move. We’ll need to rent a replacement truck to keep these essential pickups and deliveries going which will be an unexpected and significant expense.
