To help children and families shape their own futures. THE MAGNITUDE OF NEED
More than 100,000 children in Greater Detroit are vulnerable to the effects of mental health disorders, abuse, neglect, and poverty. CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING:
• 1 in 5 children have a diagnosable mental disorder
• 1 in 59 children has been identified with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Boys are four times more likely to be diagnosed with autism than girls.
• Every 28 seconds, a child is placed in foster care
• Every 18 minutes, a child is abused or neglected
• Less than 50% of greater Detroit’s children arrive at kindergarten ready-to-learn

Today, we honored 9/11 through service. 💙

We were grateful to welcome students from International Academy and other community volunteers to our campus for the 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance. Together, they helped care for our grounds, set up new kid-friendly furniture in our lobbies, and joined some of our kids in painting rocks to brighten up our campus.

Thank you to the Michigan Community Service Commission for partnering with us to make today’s service project possible, and to everyone who spent their day giving back alongside us! 💛

🎃 Help us make Trunk or Treat a spooktacular night for more than 500 children! 👻🍬

Our annual Trunk or Treat gives children and families a fun, safe place to celebrate Halloween, and we need our community to help bring the magic to life!

There are 3 ways to get involved:

🚗 Decorate a Trunk
Gather your friends, family, or coworkers, decorate a vehicle in a kid-friendly Halloween theme, throw on your best costumes, and hand out treats to our trick-or-treaters! Register by October 9th.

🙌 Volunteer
Join us on event day and help make the experience fun and memorable for children and families.

🍬 Donate Candy
Can’t join us in person? You can still help fill our trunks with treats by purchasing candy from our Amazon Wish List!

However you choose to participate, you’ll help create a Halloween celebration filled with costumes, candy, smiles, and plenty of fun. 🧡

One Day. Two events. 278 hours of giving back. 💙

Our Health & Wellness Fair and Back-to-School Backpack Bazaar came together for one very busy and very special day at The Children’s Center, and our volunteers helped make every moment possible.

55 volunteers gave 201 hours supporting our Health & Wellness Fair including individuals and groups from Ally, Walgreens, Tau Beta Association and 2x Focus, while 14 volunteers from Meijer and Ilitch Sports + Entertainment gave 77 hours helping distribute 2,000 backpacks during our Back-to-School Backpack Bazaar.

From welcoming families to handing out backpacks and helping everything run smoothly, their support was behind so many of the smiles we saw that day. Thank you for showing up for Detroit’s children and families! 💛

We’re excited to once again be a Core Charity Partner of Arts, Beats & Eats, happening September 4–7 in Downtown Royal Oak!

Spend the weekend enjoying incredible art, live music across 11 stages, delicious food, carnival rides, shopping, family fun and more, all while supporting local nonprofits like The Children’s Center. 💙

We reached our goal! ❤️

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, The Children’s Center has reached and surpassed our endowment fundraising goal!

Made possible through the Michigan Central Station Children’s Endowment Initiative, launched by the Children's Foundation of Michigan, this milestone creates lasting support for Detroit’s children and families for generations to come.

To the Children’s Foundation of Michigan and every donor, partner and supporter who helped make this possible: thank you. What we built together will continue making an impact year after year.

A new school year starts with feeling prepared. 🎒💙

This year’s Back-to-School Backpack Bazaar, presented by the Tigers Community Foundation and Meijer, helped provide 2,000 children in our community with backpacks filled with school supplies and other essentials.

From packing and organizing to distributing backpacks and sharing plenty of smiles with PAWS, the Tigers Foundation continues to be a hands-on partner in making this day possible.

Over the past three years, their support has helped put 5,500 backpacks into the hands of local students. Thank you to the Tigers Foundation and Meijer for helping Detroit’s children start the school year ready for what’s ahead!
