Day 3 at and we’re still coming strong! 🔥

This week, Love Detroit Prevention Coalition has been leading sessions, shaping the movement, and encouraging meaningful advocacy across the forum.

Grenae Dudley, PhD, absolutely knocked it out of the park! Her youth-focused sessions reached capacity within the first five minutes, showing just how powerful and necessary youth-centered prevention continues to be.

Our Treasurer, Jeff Griffith, has been actively connecting the dots all week! Networking, building relationships, and speaking candidly about the real dos and don’ts of prevention work, grounded in lived experience and long-term impact.

We were especially excited to see so many Detroit constituents join us for our session and state meeting. Together, we’re continuing to collaborate, strengthen partnerships, and move our collective efforts forward to advance substance use prevention in our communities.

Our Love for Detroit extends beyond city limits!

It’s Day 2 of Love Detroit Prevention Coalition journey at CADCA!

We’re excited to be part of this year’s CADCA Forum as we join prevention leaders from across the country to share, learn, and build together.

Our Chair, Grenae Dudley, PhD, will be presenting four powerful sessions, sharing insights and strategies to strengthen prevention work nationwide. She’ll also be joined by our Treasurer, Jeff Griffith, for a special session on lasting change, taking place Tuesday.

We’re also proud to celebrate Brittany Marby and Dawn Calloway, who both received scholarships to attend and support the forum, helping ensure meaningful engagement, learning, and enrichment for coalitions as we come together.

Detroit voices are in the room.

The Love Detroit Prevention Coalition kicked off our Over the Counter & Prescription Medicine Safety campaign in April! Our Community Outreach and Engagement (C.O.R.E) department went to city rec centers and senior housing locations and presented information on the difference between OTC and prescription medications, how to properly dose OTC medications, distinguishing between safe and unsafe storage locations for OTC medicines, the importance of the drug facts label and its various sections and promotion of the DEA Takeback (hosted in April and October) as a safe disposal option! Participants were entered into a raffle/prize giveaway and 1 winner received a ‘medicine safety kit that includes a safe storage container, magnifying glass, safe storage tip magnet, and LDPC swag!

Congratulations to our great partners, the Detroit Police Department's 7th precinct, on taking back 145 pounds of pills in last October's DEA Drug Takeback event. They win the coveted Golden Throne, given to the takeback site that collects the most pills to help keep our community safe. The next takeback day is Saturday, April 26th - please go to any Detroit Police precinct headquarters or find the closest takeback site to you by visiting deatakeback.com. Congrats again to the 7th... who will win the award this year?

Here are a few tips to help keep youth in your home from medicine misuse:

- never share your medications
- never use someone else's medications
- never refer to medicine as candy
- store your medications up and away and out of sight of children
- never misuse or abuse your medicine
- kids should only take medicine under the supervision of a guardian or parent
