Congratulations to Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc. member Dr. Michael Jones! 🙌🏾

Dr. Michael Jones has been named the first Black man to lead Hampton University's School of Nursing — and only the second Black man to ever lead a standalone nursing program at an HBCU.

Jones is a first-generation nursing student and HU alumnus who has been breaking barriers his entire career. Now he says he wants to use his new role to make sure the next generation of young men sees someone who looks like them leading the way.

"I want to be a positive role model and, kind of, an example for those who are coming along behind me," Jones said.

Meet Dr. Jones and find out what he plans to do next for Hampton University's nursing program at the link in comments.

A mother’s health before and during pregnancy can directly affect her baby’s growth, development and chances of survival.

For Infant Mortality Awareness Month, Tara Walker, DNP, APRN, ACNP-BC, ELAN-F, FAANP, clinical associate professor at the Wayne State University College of Nursing, explains how nutrition, stress, prenatal care and chronic conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes can shape maternal and infant health outcomes.

“Until we can ensure that every woman, regardless of their income, their education [or] their insurance, is listened to and not dismissed, we’re not going to solve this problem," Walker said.

Watch the interview to learn how access to care, early intervention and patient advocacy can improve outcomes for mothers and babies.

Today our Chapter members teamed up to walk to bring awareness to childhood cancer for St. Jude and along with other members, we've been raising money. Our fundraising will continue until the end of September, Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Families never receive a bill from St. Jude Children's Research Hospital for treatment, travel, housing, or food.
